You get up on a weekend when you have nothing but time and you go to the washroom and look at yourself in the mirror and … you are bored. Your face looks the same and obviously, you cannot do much about it but then you look at your hair and you think about the endless haircuts that you would have rocked and the hair colours that would have added a touch of  “new” to you. Now that is something that you can fix as well as change.

Hair colour changes a persons personality and the way she is perceived in a completely different way. A girl can be a complete tomboy but with a rose gold hair colour she can come off as a dainty girl. Similarly, a girl can be shy but with fiery red colour, she could throw people off guard. That is the power if a hair colour and opting the correct one is the key. Getting it from a professional to achieve the correct shadows and lights is equally important.

You would be living under a rock if you think dipping hair into one colour is the only way to change its look. Now there is everything from ombre, highlights, lowlights to global. But the one that comes off most naturally and the one that we will be addressing today is “Balayage”.

What is Balayage?

Well, trends are known to come back in their own time and the biggest 70’s trend that is back and shining is balayage. Unlike highlights or lowlights, balayage does not require foil and is a freehand technique for dying the hair. It was created by French colourist and is the most natural looking hair colouring technique. Everyone from Sarrah Jessica Parker, Miley Cyrus to Priyanka Chopra was seen rocking this technique for its ability to subtly merge with the natural hair colour.

It does serious wonders for long hair as it adds movement and depth to it. Considering it is the most subtle way to go, it is perfect for someone who is a newbie in hair colour or someone who is tired of experimenting with too much colour. This requires very less touchup and is your dream come true if your looking for something low maintenance.

However, just because it is low maintenance doesn’t mean you can master this at home. Considering it is free hand, it is best when left on a professional. They will be able to do this without leaving any harsh lines and giving the hair the required depth and highlight.

Balayage considering its natural blend looks perfect both in straight as well as wavy hair. Maintaining it is super easy as it does not require you to set your hair every now and then. In fact, the more natural your hair look the best balayage will reflect. Longer hair is a cherry on the cake as it helps in reflecting the transition very clearly and beautifully.

Here are a few balayage suggestions based on skin types and vibes. Select the one that you are most comfortable with and carry it like a boss.

Light Brown Balayage

Skin Tone: Fair to Medium

The safest option for people who are just starting with the hair colour[1] business, light brown balayage can be done on light as well as darker hair root. The lighter one would be a melt blend wherein the darker blend will give it dimension. A shade that is very close to blond however not that bleached will give justice to light brown balayage. If you have lighter toned hair[2], you can dye them into a dark tone and then add the light brown balayage to it. If you have darker tones you can bleach them and then use lighter brown to balayage. There is a lot that you can do around the browns.

Tip: A slightly messy wave would justify this balayage the best. It will reflect the depths and the highlights achieved through this balayage. Use a salt-infused spray as it will add the beachy crunch your waves need.

Dark Brown Balayage

Skin Tone: All skin types.

While you might think that brown on brown wouldn’t bring much of a change and will not even reflect back, well, you are wrong. Brown looks stunning on browns and gives a very airbrush like feel. They add the required amount of depth and movement making your hair look very sleek and sophisticated.

Tip: You can keep your hair whichever way you like with this one. Feel like making a top bun go ahead, want to give them soft curls, start curling already. Dark brown balayage is the safest and the most versatile hair colour option.

Blend Browns

Skin Tone: All skin types.

The perfect painting is created by adding the right highlights and right shadow at the required places. When done right, it turns into a masterpiece. Very similar to that is the blend balayage technique. It is the perfect blend of light and dark which gives hair a 4-dimensional look. It adds a sense of movement to the hair making it appear voluminous and peppy.

Tip: Never lay any blend balayage or blend hair colour flat. It takes away from its detailed work. Instead, keep them in curls where varied shades of brown will clash with each other, making your hair look nothing less than a masterpiece.

Ash Blonde

Skin Tone: Very Fair to Fair skin tone.

This is the best shade to get summer-bleached hair. If you are a game of thrones fan we already know you are thinking about Khaleesi. This is the perfect shade for winter time. When done on longer manes, it gives hair the movement that it requires. You can keep a darker root and use ash blondes as balayage. It will give you a natural transition and make even colour like the blond look very adaptable. You can keep the worry of weather blonde will go with your hair colourblend balayage technique or not aside as balayage technique suits all hair colour types be it black, brown, reds or blondes. However, picking the right shade will always work as a bonus. For example, a blonde with a lighter red might flush you out based on your skin tone[3] but a blonde with brown or black is hit!

Tip: Straight hair might look way too dramatic for this colour, try and maintain loose curls at all times. Blonde as colour in itself is complex, consult with your stylist or colourist before picking a colour with it.

Icy Blonde

Skin Tone: Fair to Medium

The best part about balayage if whichever colour you pick, it will require minimal maintenance because it was invented to give the most natural blend. If you are planning to stick with ice blonde for a very long time, you would need a touch up every 6-8 weeks to maintain the intensity of the colour. However, if you are just looking for a change and would try something else in the coming future, this is your best bet. Blondes add a tinge of youth and fun to the whole look. While an all over blonde is too much but the ombre seems almost nothing, balayage in icy blonde is the perfect shade for long hair to show the transition.

Tip: Considering blonde requires bleaching of hair, it is always better to get this done through the hands of an expert.

Dirty Blonde

# TRENDING HAIR COLOUR- 2019

Skin Tone: Fair to medium skin tone.

This is the most subtle way of adding colour to your hair. It will look natural and sophisticated at the same time. You can do this by either adding cream blond balayage to a black crown or melt it from a brown hair as well. Dirty blonde will keep your original hair colour intact by just adding a subtle airbrush blonde to it to add dimensions.

Tip: You will have to bleach your hair from the roots to achieve this look if you have dark hair hence use a lot of scalp[4] protecting cream and serums before and after this hair colour.

Espresso and caramel blonde

Skin Tone: Dusky to dark skin tone

Not a lot of blondes go well with dark skin tone as it can end up looking too loud for your face. A shot of espresso does amazingly well not just for your body but also for your hair. This is the trendiest look this year. It requires thin highlights above the mid-shaft and thick highlights below. The caramel and espresso shades blend perfectly with each other

Tip: Soft curls work brilliantly with the espresso and caramel blonde as it reflects all the highlights and shadows the best in this hairstyle.

Creamy Blonde

Skin Tone: Fair skin tone

This is the perfect balayage for the feminine side of you. It will look very subtle and bring out the colour of your eyes pop. Make sure to do this with a dark brown as it adds a hair contour to it. Add the cream blend after leaving a few inches from the top to give the perfect waterfall hair colour effect. This hair colour does not even require a lot of maintenance as the blonde will not fade fast until and unless it grows rusty which is very rare to happen with blondes.

Tip: Use hair curler to add soft curls[5] for daily look or dramatic curls for a night out or to pair with a gown or dress for a night out.

Platinum Balayage

Skin Tone: Fair to Mediums

A platinum blonde is the easiest way to take a step closer to looking like a realistic Barbie. There is no way that you won’t grab attention having this colour on. It gives hair a shiny and dreamy-like shade. Considering its easy maintenance, people are actually looking at it as a hair colour option. This might be a little out there, but with minimum effort, you can look outstanding and stand out amongst all. If you are looking for an apt balance between subtle and drama, Platinum balayage is your best bet.

Tip: Choose the root colour that is closest to your actual hair colour to have a very natural looking dye on. Try and maintain curls with this colour as it will add volume and give depth.

Copper Balayage

# TRENDING HAIR COLOUR-2019

Skin Tone: Very Fair to Fair

Copper tends to give a very English look to your whole persona. It’s a colour that would instantly make you look mature and to be taken seriously. You can opt for copper balayage over blonde roots or copper balayage over darker brown or black. If you opt for the former, then the effects of it are going to be very bold, fiery and out there. However the later will come out subtle and blend in easily. Pick the look that you are looking for.

Tip: Opt for softer waves with copper as the colour already has a lot of drama in it. A dramatic hairstyle will take thing overboard making it look gaudy.

Rose Gold

# TRENDING HAIR COLOUR-2019

Skin Tone: All tones

Rose gold is that one blessed colour that suits all and can be picked with eyes closed. You must be wondering if it is so commercially acceptable then why don’t you see so much of it on the street? Well, it might suit all skin tones but it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea to carry a rose gold balayage. Plus it is one of those shades that requires utmost precession when it comes to the application. If you are dark skinned, you can use a darker root and then use rose gold as balayage on your long wavy hair. If you are lighter toned, opt for rose gold on hues like blonde and apricots. Rose gold is loved even by celebrities like Blake Lively, Kylie Jenner and Halsey. This shade brightens up the face as well to an extent that it requires bare minimum makeup.

Tip: This is a complex balayage colour and looks best when left to the experts. To maintain it for the longest time possible, use hair products like shampoo, conditioner, hair oil and mask that claims to protect the hair colour.

Dimensional And Rich

Skin Tone: Fair to Dusky

If blondes and platinum sound too much to you and your work or college life wouldn’t allow you to go that crazy with your hair colour, this is the perfect tone to dip your hair into. It isn’t loud but yet screams change. If given the hair an illusion of a lot of volumes due to the way lighter and darker shades are used. It creates depth and dimension to the hair. If you are someone with a chubby face, this balayage will bring out the best balance. It is the perfect balance between being natural and being all over the place. It creates a sense of movement in the hair and is perfect for someone with thin hair as it adds an abundance of volume.

Tip: This hair colour would look perfect on someone with semi-straight- semi-wavy hair and front bangs. If you are doing this at home, try to use your fingers for the lighter shade to give a sunkissed look.

Princess Elsa Inspired

Skin Tone: Fair

If change is what you are looking for and you don’t mind going out of the box to do something extremely crazy then this is what you must do. You will have to blonde your hair entirely and then do a platinum light blue balayage[6] on top of it. Sounds familiar? Well, it is the exact same look that the Disney princess Elsa have. The blue should be the bare minimum and look almost like a shadow or a reflection of something blue on platinum hair. While it looks like too much, it requires bare minimum maintenance. If you naturally have lighter hair, achieving this is the easiest.

Tip: Try and avoid using hard water after this balayage.

Blend Balayage

Skin Tone: All skin types

Blend balayage[7] is named that way because it is the most natural form of balayage. It plays with shades around your actual hair colour and gives it depth and dimension. It is mostly done using a shade lighter and a shade darker than your actual colour. This way there sure is a change but it does not look very loud. If you are looking for a subtle change that can be expected at your workplace, this is it. It looks soft yet give dimension to your hair. This colour would also balance out your face making it look naturally flawless. This hair colour can be easily achieved even at home.

Tip: If doing at home, make sure to consult an expert while choosing the colours that you will use to create the whole depth and highlight effect.

Rooted

Skin Tone: Depends on the colour choice and skin tone.

Rooted hair colour is the most effortless yet one amongst the most polished balayage. This looks keep a 60% of your actual hair colour and do the balayage on the remaining 40%. This way, the transition looks natural and falls beautifully. This can be achieved at home however make sure to use the lighter tone very lightly and like brush strokes.

Tip: Use professional hair care products to maintain and protect this colour.

Blonde Mermaid

Skin Tone: Warm skin tone

The whole platinum mermaid shades have been on a rage and are wanted by all lately. People love this due to the colours that it captures ranging from deep blue to indigo. This hair colour is the easiest when you want to show a transition from your actual hair colour to varied shades of the sea. Adding multiple layers of darker and lighter shades of cool colour is the trick to master a blonde mermaid look. Considering these are all cool colours, they will stand out most on someone with warmer tones. Just because it has so many shades and colour doesn’t mean it is always very loud. When done using blues only as reflective colour, this can be carried by everyone. The best way to flaunt them is by curling them in waves.

Tip: Never settle with only blue shades when wanting a mermaid look. Add in splashes of rose gold and lavenders to play around the depth and highlights.

Sun-kissed Hair

Skin Tone: All skin types

Sun-kissed hair is given that name because it gives hair the lighter look and effect that the one achieves standing under the sun. It is a balayage where it looks as if its the sun that is following on the hair to give it the specified tone. Considering it is this natural, it has to be very close to your actual hair colour[8]. A black hair person can opt of brown balayage and someone with blonde can opt for a colour like apricot and lighter chestnut balayage. It would give you a look as if you are straight out of a beach vacation from California. It is very smooth and can be carried by almost everyone. And obviously, if we say sun-kissed we mean long beach waves.

Tip: Make sure if you do this at home you get the shades blended well. If it is at the salon then watch how it looks. If it looks like you are standing under the sun and your hair is reflecting shades lighter because of its rays, bingo! You have nailed the sun-kissed look.

Burgundy Color Melt

Skin Tone: All skin types, best for a darker tone.

Anything that has a tinge of red in it can never go wrong with hair. It is that trump card in colours that can be used whenever possible as it can never be too loud. While almost all hair colours work perfectly fine for fair to medium skin tone, it is the darker tone people that find it very difficult to put a finger down on something. This is their best bet. The perfect colour to transition from summer to fall, burgundy makes your face look slimmer and toned. This shade requires very minimum going on the face as it is enough a makeup to make your face look sharp and chiselled.

Tip: Protect this colour using intense hair care products as it tends to bleed the fastest. Hair that is straight from top and wavy as it reaches the bottom goes perfectly with this hair colour.

Fiery Red

Skin Tone: All skin types, best for a darker tone.

There is no way one can avoid a read head and it is impossible that a read-head will not be taken seriously. It is a hair colour that speaks power and confidence. A balayage using ruby red will not go unnoticed even by the sunrays. It reflects most beautifully and would help you sprinkle sass wherever you go.  Dying your hair into red balayage will amp up your style statement. This is the perfect look if you want to play and have fun but still maintain a little subtleness to the whole look.  Red balayage is definitely for the bold and you must be 100% sure before dipping your hair into this.

Tip: You might want to stay away from red balayage if you have a wide jawline or a ruddy skin tone as it tends to bring attention to edges of the face and hence will make your jawline look even more wide than usual.

Caramel Toned

Skin Tone: All skin types.

The best thing about this balayage is the fact that it looks good both in straight or waves. Caramel tone blends really well with both dark and lighter shade. If you have thick hair, you can get the exact same look by consulting your stylist. Considering none of the balayage is done from the roots, there will be minimal maintenance that will go behind this. Long hair with caramel balayage is timeless. Add waves to it and you become a classic. It is the most stylish and sophisticated balayage hair colour for long hair.

Tip: Layers look amazing when it comes caramel balayage. It gives depth and a sense of movement to the hair. You can touch this colour up every 6 weeks if you want to hold onto it for a longer time.

Brunette Blonde Balayage

# TRENDING HAIR COLOUR-2019

Skin Tone: Fair Skin.

Blondes are a shade that suits perfectly on fair skin tone. This balayage will look perfect because brunettes and blondes melt into each other in the most beautiful way if done correctly. This balayage compliment longer hair better as longer hair can be given more defined layers which best reflect upon this hair colour. This is also one of the balayage that suit both straight as well as wavy. The straight makes it look sophisticated while the wavy adds a bit of fun to it.

Tip: Try to give as many layers as possible as the colour mixed with that hairstyle will give a natural volume and bounce to this hair colour.

Ash Brown

Skin Tone: Medium to Dark.

This also falls under the subdued look that you must be wanting either because you are starting on the whole hair colour journey or because you are too overdone with using too many bold colours on your manes. It is perfect for someone with dark hair and helps in lightening up your entire look from the head down to your face. This is perfect even for a college-going girl with restrictions in terms of going to loud. This is natural, subtle and can be carried by everyone including people who are getting their manes dyed for the first time. Make your hair wavy for depth or leave it straight for lesser drama.

Tip: When going out, always opt for a smokey eye as this will enhance your face and your latest ash brown balayage for your good.

The modern Silver

Skin Tone: Best on dark skin tone.

Modern silver has conquered the hair and beauty[9] market like nothing else. First, we saw the silver nail paint that reflects off like a mirror and then came the trend of silver hair. Raged after seen on the famous single Elie Goulding, silver hair picked up its pace and doesn’t seem to slow down any soon. While you can play with it by adding a few warmer shades to make it look natural and subtle, it also gives you the option of going all out and mixing shades like blue and reds to get a modern silver balayage for long hair[10]. The dream of becoming a knight in shining armour is not very far and the best part is, you can be one while carrying the elegance of a princess.

Tip: Get it done in a salon as they use polishing which makes it look mirror like within no time. If your skin tone falls under the dark category, make sure to keep darker roots and then adding the silver balayage to it.

Multi-Dimensional Tones

Skin Tone: Depends on the colours used.

Multi-toned balayage is nothing but a work of art all due thanks to the technique of free dying hair[11] using hand. This makes the mixing of varied hues easier as there are no foils involved. This is best if you want all eyes glued to you and the amalgamation of different shades will keep your spectators looking and mesmerised for a very long time. Acheiving this isn’t easy but flaunting it is.

Tip: Make sure your hair is long and waved to present multi-tones balayage in the best possible way.

Purple Balayage

Skin Tone: Depends on the shade of purple.

If there is one technique that can make a colour like purple look subtle, it is balayage.  Be it a darker shade or a lighter lavenderish purple tone, balayage makes the blend look the most natural especially when done on long hair. If you have dark hair then the soft fade to light purple will make you look magical. And if you have lighter hair, then the blend from light to either platinum purple or dark purple will make you look no less than a unicorn. People are going crazy behind the platinum purple and you must have seen one of your friends dipped in this shade. There is a lot that can be done in terms of its styling. You can also play with darker and lighter shades of purple to add dimension and movement to your long tresses.

Tip: All the colour with a red undertone tends to bleed faster than usual colours. Hence, opt for intense hair care if opting for this colour.

Honey Caramel

Skin Tone: Universal Shade.

Also one amongst the naturally transitioning shade, honey caramel looks best when done on a darker brown colour. If you are planning to change your entire look, you can colour your hair into dark brown, which most Asians already have and balayage it with honey caramel. They make the softest curls and waves making one beach ready. This is perfect hair colour to be carried for a day as well as for a night out. It will shock you with its versatility even when it will start fading into blonde. The transition is beautiful and will never look overdone. The biggest advantage of it is that it suits all skin tones and can be opted blindly. Considering how subtle it is, it is perfect for newbies who are looking for a change but don’t want to be out there trying reds and blues.

Tip: While it suits all hair type as well, it reflects best out of long manes and especially the ones that are loosely curled. However, you can leave it straight and they will manage to impress quite equally.

Faded Pastel

# TRENDING HAIR COLOUR- 2019

Skin Tone: Reflects best from a dark skin tone.

This compared to other colours are the highest in maintenance as they bleed even faster than the reds. IT is perfect for someone who is constantly looking for changing colours and pastels is just a period and phase of it. While it can be flaunted by both light and darker skin tones it reflects back the best from a darker tone. It is a stunner and a subtle mermaid look can be achieved using it. This is the most difficult to achieve and looks best when left to an expert. A longer hair gives better justice to pastel colour than short as the colour gets enough space to melt and merge. Faded pastels can be carries by both straight and wavy hair. This works in the benefit of it cause just by using a few styling appliances a completely new look can be achieved with faded pastel balayage.

Tip: Considering it bleeds faster, using fixing agents to fix it and avoid maximum bleeding. As it is on the lighter shade, it is always advised to use hair styling appliances on low temp cause using it on high temp can fade the colour away entirely.

Faded Pastel

Modernised Balayage

Skin Tone: Depends on the colours used.

People are experimenting with their looks and playing with colours to add the fun element in their appearance. That is how the whole pastel and mermaid trend came in as people were mixing funky colours to achieve a unique look. The most wearable fashion balayage that are preferred by people is around pinks and purples. They are fun yet they manage to look subtle. Styling them differently gives a different look every single time. And especially when done on long manes, there is no way one can go wrong with balayage and touch of modern as there is enough space to blend and beautify. If you are in a hurry to go out and don’t know what to do with you long manes that are recently balayage, look for nothing and just add some waves. They will take your look from dab to fab in a jiffy.

Tip: Considering the touch of red to both these shades, they will bleed faster than other colour hence gets it fixed by you colourist after the treatment.

Warm Mahogany Brown

Skin Tone: Reflect best from fair skin tone.

Mohogony is a beautiful deeper shade that belongs to the red family. If the Hindi movie starring Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapoor made headlines, it was only because of the songs and the famous hair colour from the movie Fitoor. It was the most beautiful mahogany shade which when done, would bring confidence, sophistication and a sense of power. That is the beauty of that colour. It can do that and so much more for your overall appearance. They melt best from a darker tone so if you want to perfect your look, try and dye your hair to a black or chocolate brown to give complete justice to this balayage.

Tip: Gentle curls in the bottom while straight from the top is the best hairstyle to maintain with this. After dying if you feel it is too fiery for you, you can always keep your hair in a bun or a pony for the workplace and leave it open for the perfect girls night out. One amongst the best shade for winter.

Galaxy Balayage

Skin Tone: All skin types

One from the experimental palette, galaxy balayage is the perfect hair colour if you are looking for something subtle yet whimsical. While you might not be able to go to the NASA tours to planets to witness the galaxy from close, you can surely achieve its effects on your very hair. The galaxy balayage combines tones like blue, turquoise and purple to replicate the galaxy that we have only seen in pictures. While it can be kept subtle by just adding the galaxy balayage to the lower ends or you can make do your whole hair into this pattern by bleaching your hair[12] to a blue and then adding the turquoise and purples using the balayage technique. These look magical when done on long hair as they get enough space to show the whole transition.

Tip: Considering this requires a lot of time, it needs heavy maintenance too as it contains colour that bleeds faster than usual. Make sure to get your colour fixed and use products that help and save the colour for a longer time. Heavy dramatic waves look the best with this hair colour.

Smoky Pearlescent

Skin Tone: Fair to Dusky.

Pearls are the easiest way to look Audrey Hepburnish within seconds. They scream sophistication and give a very dainty look to your persona. Now imagine the effects of pearl on your hair. Isn’t it the most beautiful? The slight touch of pinks and purple add the perfect reflection to otherwise pearly blond shade. This balayage will look perfect on an ashy base. A dark brown would take away from the effect hence if you want to keep it, maintain it only on the crown and then blend in the ash and in the end finish the look with faded purple and pink on the tips to give the perfect pearl look. It is the perfect blend of metallic and pastels.

Tip: Smokey pearlescent looks mesmerising on hair that shines hence apart from using products to protect this colour, use serums that will add shine to your hair.

Lavender Balayage

Skin Tone: All skin tones

All shades of purple are conquering the hair colour market like nobody’s business. Lavender is also one amongst the same. It is the perfect shade that falls under pink and purple, both trending hair colour trends for 2019. This works best for Asian who have black or dark colour hair and the transition of lavender from dark hair colour[13] with a tinge of silver or grey look magical. The lavender adds the warmth that black or brown hair needs. You don’t have to worry about your hair texture colour or type. This balayage will suit them all.

Tip: Try wearing bare minimum makeup with this as it will be enough colour for your face. Try and maintain soft curls to flaunt the lavender melting down black in all its glory.

Green, unlike blues and pink, can be picked blinded for someone with a dark skin tone. Because if the warmer tone, it looks mesmerising when done right. If you have dark hair, maintain that and bleach it from the mid-shaft. Add the teal to it and blend it in for the most natural look. When done on a dark base like brown or black, teal looks very subtle and can be carried by a maximum amount of people. It becomes a risky job however when done with a lighter crown. Hence, opt for a darker base to look flawless with minimum efforts.

Tip: Maintenance and styling for this colour are really low so just using a colour protective shampoo[14] and conditioner is enough to flaunt this look. You can leave it straight, tie them up in a pony or even make a bun, this shade satisfies all of them efficiently.

Black To Midnight Shadow

Skin Tone: Reflects best from a fair skin tone

The best way to balayage on a black hair is to try and connect it with things where black fades into something to create a beautiful hue. The best inspiration is nature. A black blending in silver can replicate the perfect winter night. Similarly, a black blending into hues of blue will bring midnight to your hair. Straight long hair looks the best to justify this balayage. In this, the roots are dark black which melts downs to darker shades of blue and finally to subtle teal highlights. This balayage is very popular as apart from looking a stunner it also adds volume to your hair. It is the easiest step to looking a complete badass.

Tip: This requires low maintenance, however, try to maintain a shine to your hair[15] to give the exact black midnight feel.

Getting your hair coloured is a very big step and it is a step that can either make or break things for you. However easy the whole hair colouring technique looks to you, it is always best when left on a professional. You can try your hand on a couple of wigs first before doing anything your actual hair. Balayage is the most subtle way of colouring your hair and comes with minimal complication. Choose the right colours based on your skin tone and the vibe that you want to spread and you are good to go. Your eye colour and your skin tone play a major role when it comes to picking up the hair colour and never avoid it.

Opt to go subtle with shades like brunettes and brown or go crazy with blues and greys, just keep in mind that whichever colour you pick will stay with you for at least 2 months and it should fill you up with confidence not make you even more cautious about yourself. Add the colours that give you confidence because life is too short to have boring hair!

  2. Great post guys!! I love balayage and have been looking into it from outside the window with eager eyes for awhile now. This is inspiring me to get one for myself. But it is also confusing me because there are so many!! Pretty much every single one of these look amazing to me and I want one and I look at the next and then I want that one. This is endless, arrghhh so frustrating lol. I will figure it out though. thanks for sharing such awesome post with us.

  3. Hey nice post and such gorgeous looking hairstyles. I am kind of jealous looking at all those fabulous hair. I will also have to join these women looks like. so many to chose from hmm. Which one should I go for?

  4. Great article team glowpink. I have a sort of a confusion which might be a stupid question. but here it goes anyway. Is balayage and ombre the same thing??

  5. @Sonya – These two are different styles for hair but at a look, certainly seems to be very similar. so it could be easily mistaken for the same thing. I balayage, which means ‘to sweep’ in french language, color highlights are painted onto your hair which are a few shades lighter than your hair color. In this style, the highlights are given in such a way that looks natural. the transition is much softer and smooth and gives your hair a sunkissed look. It provides more dimension and movement to your hair which makes them look amazing. Now, let us look at ombre style. It means ‘shadow’ in french. In this style your natural hair are left at the roots and then the color transitions into a lighter shade as you move towards the ends. The main difference between these two in looks are that balayage looks much more seamless and smooth with its color transition, whereas in ombre, the fade line between the different colors is more apparent and clear. Hope this was clear to you and helped you out. Have a good day.

  6. Great post and great hairstyles. I love it that nowadays there is so much color in the hairs. We need to keep this trend going and growing. Let’s make the world more colorful by coloring our hair in such gorgeous hues. Let’s do this ladies, all together now. Let’s bring on a hair color revolution.

  7. Yeah, I am with you one hundred percent girl. These look so good that its ridiculous. I am not the one to be swept up by fads and trends but, oh my god, these are gorgeous. Look great and adds a variety to the world which I love. People always want to distinguish themselves. that is why in recent years tattoos have also got more popular. This is another way to define and distinguish yourself and show your identity and style. And what is great is its not permanent. You can change it up whenever you want. That is awesome as variety is the spice which makes life, i don’t know, spicy i guess. 😀

  8. Brilliant post!! I love all these gorgeous ladies with amazing hairstyles. I wish I had long hair too like these so I could rock some of these hairstyles. Any one of these will be miles ahead of my hair. Oh well, looks like I have to grow out my hair first. The process is going on as we speak so that’s good. Thanks and see you guys later.

  9. Hey guys, can someone tell me why balayage is more expensive and will it be worth it going over ombre?? Waiting for a reply. Thanks in advance.

  10. @Patsy Fox – Generally speaking, Balayage takes longer because it takes more skill form your stylist as they have to go though coloring portions of your hair at a time. That is why it is costlier as it takes more of an effort, creativity and skills from your stylist. Moreover, you do not have to have it done as frequently as other hair coloring and styling methods so there is that too.

  11. It will depend a lot on your hair, the style and colors and your stylist too. The highlights are customized and done in a natural looking way and glide smoothly so there is not much issue when your hair grows out. It still looks great after that too. Commonly, you can go up to six months easily before you have to go in for another touch up session. That is a long time, isn’t it. I think so. It is my preferred method way by the way. I absolutely adore it. Have been using balayage styles for almost 2 years now.

  12. Wow, this looks amazing. Now I want one. Typical of me LOL . Seriously though they look really really amazing. I had no idea that that there are so many shades and colors and stuff and they blend together so gooood. its and eyegasm or harigasm, i don’t know what to call it, just that it looks gorgeous and fabulous. Now I just have to figure out which one is my favorite and that is going to be difficult for me i already know because there is so much gorgeous hair in here.

  13. @ Nicole Hawkins – I mean, you are coloring your hair so I am not sure that can be good for your hair health. yet. But balayage is great for people who are new to hair coloring. That is because it is subtle technique which highlights your hair. Which is better and gentler than completely changing your hair to another color, so balayage isn’t that severe or damaging to the hair than the other things.

  14. @ Nicole Hawkins – Britta here makes good points which are right. also, balayage works on any type and color of hair. So, it does not matter if your hair is blonde, brown, black, or even if you are a ginger, you can have balayage hair.

  15. @ Nicole hawkins – No, I would not say it is good for the hair but most colorist and stylist would agree that balayage is less damaging to the hair than other more conventional methods of hair coloring. Other methods involve foils and heat and stuff which can damage your hair quite a bit and also give your hair a over processed and kind of fake look sometimes.

  16. Hey gals, I am looking to get balayage highlights in my hair pretty soon. Is there any important things or info which I should know before I have it done. Any warnings or cautions or anything? anyone?

  17. @ Catherine – umm just that you may take more than one session to have your hair fully highlighted. It will depend upon your hair color and how light you are going with it. The difference between how dark your hair color is and how lighter you want it to be will decide how much time and work it is going to take to achieve your desired shades and look.

  18. I have very curly and red colored hair. Will balayage work on me. Pls reply soon thanks

  19. @ Beth Garner – Yes, balayage can work on any type of hair and styles. It is not just limited to blond or brunette hair in any way. Go to a stylist to figure it out, which colors will look good on you.

  20. Hey ladies, Balayage is a relatively new hair style trend and many women are flocking to salons to have their hair some balayage highlights too. So, I would like to offer some suggestions to such women looking to have Balayage done for the first time. You should collect pictures of the style and color to show your hair stylist what you want your hair to look and so there is no confusion, which could be disastrous for your hair. Also, ask about whether your salon provides Olaplex. It is a treatment which makes bleached hair stronger. It will help protect your hair from undue damage and breakage. I hope some ladies find this useful. Cheers and have a nice day. Bye.

  21. Why is this style getting so popular recently. i mean, I am not knocking it, it does look amazing and even I am tempted quite a bit. But just wondering what brought this on.

  22. That is pretty apparent why it is getting popular rapidly. First of all, as you said so yourself, it does look really great and women get envious, you know, when they see such gorgeous hair styles and colors on others. It is natural that everybody wants them. But more importantly than that, many , basically every actually, celebrity, models and A-listers have started wearing it. they show it off at events, fashion shows and red carpets and stuff and those are things which pioneer new styles and fashion trends. And those people always look the best possible, so that also inspires (or maybe coaxes) the common masses to try it out. It is the culture we live in, people like following the people which they percieve as better and more successful, even if that may not be the case, as it is not i assure you. So, i would say it is pretty obvious and apparent why is Balayage rising in popularity so rapidly.

  23. @ Tammy Hill – Nice write up slash rant haha. No, I liked it really. You make some good and insightful points. It has given me something to think about and consider.

  24. Hey guys, I am thinking about getting balayage highlights myself. How much maintenance and care does it require for the upkeep. It is an important factor for me to know before I commit with it. Any help and info is appreciated. thanks.

  25. @ Rita – balayage is great in this department. It require very little maintenance, tiny amounts. It looks natural and there is a smooth fade of colors so it looks great and beautiful as it grows out. So there is practically no obvious or apparent growth line so you can keep it much longer between appointments than other methods of hair coloring and highlighting. Other than that, you just need to follow the same precaution you would to protect hair color. Just use a color protecting shampoo and conditioner, regular treatments and heat protection while styling.

  26. @ Alisha Reynolds – It is quite obvious why all the celebrities are going for balayage. And consequently they are also inspiring the masses to go for it too. It looks quite sophisticated and gives a natural sun- kissed look which everyone desires. Also it is tailored to a specific person to look the best possible it can be. Stylist tailor the style specific to the person and their face and preferences to make them look good and bring out the best and most gorgeous features. Considering all this it is pretty obvious why celebrities and a-listers would go for this. I mean they have got the funds and their livelihood depends upon their looks many times so makes sense many would opt for this.

  27. Great post with tons of beautiful and colorful hairstyles to choose from. Loving this!

  28. Should I wash my hair first before I go in for a session to get Blayage in my hair? Please reply as soon as possible, thank you.

  29. @ Elena Flowers – No, you should not wash your head before getting balayage. Balayage is essentially highlighting in your hair so you want to have slightly oily hair and scalp to protect the scalp from any damage. Although, if you are going to have your hair done in a single session, it will be better if you have clean hair so that your hair can absorb the color more so that it would be able to hold it better and for longer.

  30. Hey ladies, I have a great and helpful tip for you girls. And the tip is that you should have your hair cut first and then have them colored. In most salons, commonly, the hair are colored first and then there is a hair cut. This can get rid of your ends which are lighter and are crucial for the balayage look. So, ask your stylist to give you a cut first and then color. That way you will get the perfect balayage colors without any risk of ruining the effect. Do try this out and observe the better results. Alright then, See you girls later, Good bye.

  31. Hi, terrific post! I love balayage, it looks so gorgeous. Also it is a perfect solution for gray or graying hair. Because in this style, your stylist can specifically target your gray hair strands. And your scalp will be safe and you won’t have to do anything specific or explicit for it and you will get gorgeous hair color with natural and sweeping movement of colors which will make others swoon. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone!

  32. Balayage is the best! It is the way to go if you want to color your hair nowadays. It gives amazing looks as it is tailored specific to you and you can go for the one style that looks the best one you or the want that you want most. It looks much more natural and looks much more flattering than any other type of hair coloring. Balayage makes you hair look high class while also giving them a healthy look. You can go for anything you want, the whole world of colors and shades is open to you and you do not even have to stick to just one color. Go for as many as you want. You must have seen those galaxy type or purple magic styles which have so many shades that it almost looks like a painting really. Yeah, that is what it is with balayage, it turns your hair into a piece of art which is worthy to go on a canvas, although I am not saying you should do that. And on top of all this, it requires the minimum amount of maintenance among all the methods and techniques of hair coloring. how can one give this up, Balayage is the actual best. 🙂

  33. I love Balayage too, How can you not! My favorite shade of it would be rose gold. It looks so good and trendy. Also blue shades, they look so good to me, even if they might be a little, shall we say, experimental. or a bit risky, but I adore it anyway.
