Skin Types

Normal Skin Type

If you have a skin which isn’t too oily and also not too dry, then most of your friends around you are surely envying the glow that your skin is radiating. It is the desirable skin which is in between the two extreme ends. You will know that you fall under this bliss category if your skin does not get too sensitive while using most of the products. It is soft, supple and comes with an even skin tone.

Normal skin type isn’t entirely flawless and might face a little flakiness and patches but with minimum care, all these problems can be managed to come to a rest. It is generally blemish-free, acne-free and is far away from any sort of breakouts.

Oily Skin Type

You know oily skin[1] if you see one. It is shiny and quite easily breaks out. It is also prone to acne. Ever wondered why blackheads, whiteheads and pimple grow in areas that are prone to get oily? Oily skin tends to have larger pores which make it easier for dirt and gunk to penetrate deep inside the skin tissues, starting problems right from the roots.

While your face doesn’t lack moisture as it is almost all the time covered with a layer of oil, it can still manage to look dull and lifeless. To figure out if your skin is oily, you can take an oil absorbent paper and gently press and rub it on your face to check how much oil gets absorbed into it. If it’s more than usual, then oily is the category that your skin belongs to.

Dry Skin Type

Dry skin[2] is exactly opposite to oily, quite obviously. It lacks moisture and hence, becomes too flaky. Where the normal skin people face this issue only in winters, people with dry skin face this 365 days a year. Remember the way your skin stretches and burns? Dry skinned people go through that on a daily basis. It is dry and hence, they have very tiny pores. Because of this, moisture from varied kind of oils and creams find it very difficult to penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin.

The one common characteristic which is slightly more visible in dry skin but is available in oily skin type too is dullness. I am sure you can recall advertisements where a women’s skin is used as a notepad because scraping on it due to dryness is so easy? And if you think it is exaggerated, think again. There are a lot of women who face another level of dryness where their skin tends to peel off as well.

Combination Skin Type

If some parts of your skin tend to be dry and some parts are oily, then you have combination skin. The most common skin type, due to pollution and dirt, combination skin type is the trickiest to deal with. You have to literally use products that will act as a balancer or use different products to tackle separate areas as per the skin type.

Applying anything that helps in curing oily skin with a dry patch can worsen the situation and vice verse. Have you heard about the infamous T-zone? That is a huge part of combination skin type where the forehead, area around the nose and the nose itself tends to get oily wherein other parts of the face remain dry or normal.

Beauty Tips For Skin

Now that we have our skin types sorted, we can look at certain beauty tips for them that can help solve their various issues. Benefit from these beauty tips[3] and welcome a constant shine into your lives.

Follow these top 4 ways of managing oily skin and move one step towards an incredible looking skin:

Tip #1 – Cleansing Is A Must

Not that those with other skin types have the liberty to not wash their faces on certain days, but those with oily type of skin must make it a habit to keep their skin clean. While for a normal or dry skin type, 2-3 times cleansing or face washing in a day is enough, people with oily skin have to do it one extra time. Opting for face washes of cleansers that are gel based or foam based is the best pick.

Just because your skin is oily does not mean that you treat it with commercial products only. This can, in fact, strip off the natural oils required by your skin to stay nourished. Try and avoid face washes that come with added oils. A product containing turmeric, honey or neem will be best for you.

Tip #2 – Scrub It All

Scrubbing oily skin once a week is a must and this goes without saying. It is most important to keep the surface of your skin as clean as possible. To eliminate dirt and gunk that oily skin attracts because of the additional layer of oil sitting on the surface, it is important to scrub and get all of them out. However, make sure your scrub it appropriately and don’t overdo it as it can leave you with an inflamed skin which will be more prone to get infected.

Tip #3 – Face Mask

A face mask is a godsend if used with the right ingredients. Using a face mask for oily skin especially after exfoliating[8] it will benefit it to greater extents. The best ingredients to be used for an oily skin could be Multani mitti, sandalwood or papaya.

  5. Then, wash it using cold water.
  6. Pat dry.

Using a toner is a habit that most of us have not added to our skincare routine. However, it has its own benefits. Especially for someone with an oily skin toner will help reduce the size of pores helping lesser dirt to affect the layers of skin.

It will also help in adding an additional layer to the skin which, after cleansing and exfoliating, is very useful as it will keep the impurities away. If you don’t wish to spend on toners, then the Gulaab jal that you have been using since time unknown acts as a toner as well.

While someone with dry or frizzy hair might need it more than anyone else, anyone who wants to moisturize and make their hair healthy can use it to get fabulous looking hair.

There are a few prominent ways using which your hair can become absolutely smooth. You can use them as per your convenience and help nourish your hair to look fabulous.

Remedy #1 – Cold Water Rinse

First, before digging deep into the ingredients, the most basic thing you can do to get soft lustrous hair is to rinse and wash them with cold water only. Using cold water ensures that the first layer of your hair shaft is sealed which wouldn’t let any sort of dirt, gunk or moisture to go in.

This will help in getting smooth and shiny hair as moisture not entering the shaft will mean no frizz at all. Using warm or hot water widens the cuticle which leads to impurities going in and creating dryness and frizz. Use the cold water rinse technique whenever you are taking a shower next and see instant results.

Known as the “wand of heaven” and the “plant of immortality” aloe vera comes packed with a pH of 6 and the nutrients in it work wonders for hair. You can use this ultimate hair mask which covers all ingredients that will leave you with a soft and smooth hair.

It might be surprising for most of you but dandruff can be caused due to either a very dry or due to an extremely oily scalp. While dandruff caused due to fungus or a particular disease might need expert attention, the normal ones can be cured right at the convenience of your home.

Remedy #1 – Lemon And Coconut Magic

  • 1 lemon
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil

  1. Take a bowl and put 3 tbsp of coconut oil in it. You can add in more based on the length of your hair.
  2. To this squeeze one whole lemon’s juice.
  3. Mix them well.
  4. Section your hair and massage thoroughly without leaving any part.
  5. Make sure that it reaches each and every section of your hair and scalp.
  6. Once applied, leave it on for 30-40 minutes.
  7. You can also leave it overnight. Don’t worry if it burns a little, it is quite natural due to the irritation that is caused by dandruff to your scalp.
  8. Wash your hair using cold water and a mild shampoo and conditioner.
  9. Once washed, dry your hair using a clean towel.

Remedy #2 – Yoghurt Mask

  • 1 cup fresh yoghurt
  • Glycerin
  • Castor oil
  • Fenugreek seeds

  2. Use a grinder to grind the softened fenugreek seeds and make a powder out of it.
  3. Take another bowl and mix 1 cup yoghurt, 2-3 vitamin E capsules, 1 tbsp glycerin, 1 egg and 1 tbsp castor oil into it.
  4. Mix both the mixtures and blend them together to form a paste.
  5. Let it sit for 10 minutes as fenugreek tends to swell which can thicken the paste.
  6. Section your hair and apply this onto your hair as well as on your scalp
  7. Once applied, leave it on for 2 hours with your hair covered with a shower cap.
  8. Shampoo using a mild shampoo and conditioner.
  9. Once washed, dry your hair using a clean towel.

Beauty Rules

Rule #1 – Make up in reverse direction

While applying any face cream, serum or moisturizer on your face, it is always suggested to apply in upward directions as it helps to get rid of wrinkles, fine line on your face. But for make up this is opposite. While applying make up on your face, downward strokes makes face hair less apparent.

Rule #2 – Never forget any section

Generally we ignore neck part, while applying either make up or face mask. Stop it, if you’re make this mistake. You should always pay equal attention to your neck.

Rule #3 – Go Red

In make up if you’re not sure what color shade will suit on your lips, go with RED. One color shade that looks good on all, no matter how old are you or what is your skin color

Rule #4 – Never rub your hair

Hair is your crowning glory, its your duty to treat them well. Keep your hair ends well moisturized with hair serum and never rub them. After washing just twist your hair to get rid of excess water and then wrap them in old cotton T-shirt.

Rule #5 – Oiling is good for hair but don’t overdo it

Oiling is good for your hair, as it improves blood circulation but make sure you do not leave oil on your scalp for long time. Also make sure your scalp is clean always. If you have oily hair, wash them every alternate day.

  29. Hey guys, I have short hair and I want to grow hem as quickly as possible. Anyone have any tips on how to grow them. I want to grow them quickly down to my waist. what are the best things I can do to increase my hair growth rate.

  30. I don’t think you can influence the hair growth rate in such a way that easily. You have to take a holistic approach and keep your body healthy and hygienic together with your hair. Just take good care of your hair and they will stay healthy and grow at the fastest rate that is possible for them.

  31. I would have to agree with Marion, you cannot just, like, take a pill and make your grow out magically. unfortunately, science is not there yet. Until then, you have to fill the see with tiny drops.

  32. I have a few suggestions which you can incorporate in your life and you will see your hair grow longer naturally and quickly. Brush your hair gently and carefully. massage your scalp daily, use shampoo 3 times a week and condition every time you do. Use a microfiber towel and use a soft pillow case. This way you will prevent your hair from damage and they will stay healthy so they will grow to their fullest extent.

  33. Thanks a lot! some good useful tips in here. everyone should follow these as they are good practices and does not take anything extra from you. I would also just add that follow a healthy diet, which is full of essential nutrients for your body and hair. That is very important. What you eat reflects on your outward appearance pretty significantly.

  34. Cheers for the great and detailed and so educational post. Definitely saving this one. 🙂

  35. I have a question for you gals. Does hair growth slows down with age?? or is it just me??

  36. Hair growth indeed slows down as your age increases. That is because hair spends more and more time in resting phase than it does in growing phase as you grow into your middle age.

  37. Hey girls, I am having problems with my skin and I am in desperate need of some help. I have got a very oily and acne prone skin. My whole face is pockmarked with pimples most of the time and there are many scars, blemishes and red spots on it too. What should I do, I really need some help and guidance. anyone?

  38. Try the turmeric, milk and honey face mask. It is great for oily and acne prone skin. It will also help make it clear and blemish free.

  39. You should start by using it 3 times in a week and go from there according to the results you are getting. Hope this helped.

  40. Thanks a lot for your help. I will test your suggestions out and get back with the results. see you. Thanks again.

  43. These are all awesome and very useful tips and home remedies. I suggest every woman pay attention here you will learn a bunch of new stuff which most are not even aware of.

  44. Terrific post guys!! I am sure it will help out many women. I also add onto it a little bit and do my part. I also have some basic tips which if you follow always, i promise, you will have much easier time with your skin. First is- drink plenty of water; finish 6-8 hours of sleep daily, eat fresh fruits and vegetable a lot; always wear sunblock and always take off your make up before going to bed. If you follow these rules your skin will stay in the best shape.

  45. Great tip Sneha. Each one of these is crucial and should always be followed by every woman who wants to take care of her skin and herself. Thanks for sharing these with us. These seem obvious and simple but you will surprised how many women do not follow these even if they are aware they should. Thanks and keep it up.
