Dark spots, uneven skin tone and post-acne marks are among the most common skincare concerns. Sun exposure, acne, irritation and hormonal changes can all trigger excess melanin production, making certain areas of the face appear darker than the surrounding skin.
A cleansing milk cannot literally “remove all” pigmentation, especially stubborn melasma or deep pigmentation. However, a gentle homemade cleansing milk can help keep the skin clean without stripping its natural moisture barrier, while ingredients such as licorice, aloe vera, oats and rose water may support a brighter, more even-looking complexion over time.
This DIY cleansing milk is especially useful when your skin feels dry or dull after regular face washes.
Ingredients Required
You will need:
- 3 Tbsp milk – forms the creamy cleansing base and gently loosens dirt and residue
- 1 Tbsp pure aloe vera gel – hydrates and soothes the skin
- 1 tsp finely ground oats or colloidal oatmeal – offers very gentle cleansing
- 1 tsp rose water – refreshes the skin and improves the texture of the mixture
- ½ tsp licorice powder – traditionally used in skincare for uneven-looking skin
- ½ tsp honey – helps attract and retain moisture
- 3–4 drops sweet almond oil – adds nourishment, especially for dry skin
If your skin is very oily or acne-prone, you can skip the almond oil.
How to Prepare the Cleansing Milk
Take a clean bowl and add 3 Tbsp milk.
Add aloe vera gel, honey and rose water and mix thoroughly.
Next, add the finely ground oats and licorice powder. Stir until you get a thin, creamy consistency similar to commercial cleansing milk.
Finally, add a few drops of sweet almond oil and mix again.
For a smoother cleansing milk, you can strain the mixture through a fine muslin cloth so that no coarse particles remain.
Since this recipe contains fresh milk and no preservatives, it is best to prepare a small quantity and use it immediately rather than storing it for several days.
How to Use It
Start with dry or slightly damp skin.
Take a small amount of the cleansing milk on your fingertips and gently massage it over your face for around 60–90 seconds.
Pay extra attention to areas where you have sunscreen, makeup or excess oil, but avoid aggressive rubbing over dark spots. Friction itself can sometimes worsen pigmentation.
Wipe away the cleanser with a soft damp cotton pad or washcloth and rinse your face with lukewarm water.
Follow with your regular moisturizer.
You can use this cleansing milk once a day, preferably in the evening.
If you are wearing heavy or waterproof makeup, use a proper makeup remover first. A homemade cleansing milk may not remove waterproof products completely.
