How To Get A Splinter Out

Removing a splinter in a timely fashion is a necessity as it can cause infection and in some cases serious harm. We have some natural ingredients that can help us in our endeavors quite efficiently.


Baking Soda

How To:

  1. Take one tbsp of baking soda in a glass bowl and add water to make a thick paste.
  2. Apply the baking soda paste directly on the place where you feel the splinter is.
  3. Cover it with help of a bandage or a band-aid.
  4. Leave it to dry for four hours so that the poultice can work its magic.
  5. Remove the bandage and rinse off the paste.
  6. Pull out the splinter which now you can easily see as it has been forced out of its hiding place.
  7. Dab some antiseptic on it.

How it Works:

Baking soda paste causes the skin to swell and ultimately pushes out the splinter embedded within the skin.

Hydrogen Peroxide

How To:

  1. Take 3% hydrogen peroxide in a glass bowl.
  2. Now take a cotton ball and soak it in the solution.
  3. Apply this soaked cotton ball where the splinter is embedded and secure it with help of a tape.
  4. Leave it for two hours.
  5. Remove the tape and subsequently the cotton ball.
  6. The splinter is visible and can be easily plucked out with help of a clean tweezers
  7. Rinse the area with warm water and apply an antiseptic over it.

How it Works:

Hydrogen peroxide is anti-inflammatory by nature that reduces the inflammation and disinfects the area.

Banana Peel

How To:

  1. Take a banana and peel it.
  2. We need the banana peel and hence cut a small piece.
  3. Place the peel with its white side on the affected area and secure it with help of a tape.
  4. Leave it overnight.
  5. In the morning remove the tape and banana peel and you will see the splinter is visible.
  6. Take it out with help of clean tweezers.
  7. Dab some antiseptic on it.

How it Works:

Banana peel is rich in enzymes and antimicrobial properties that moisturize and soften the skin.

White Vinegar

How To:

  1. Take two tbsp of white vinegar in a glass bowl.
  2. Take a cotton pad and soak it in the vinegar completely and place it on the area where you can feel the splinter is.
  3. Leave it for twenty minutes.
  4. Remove the cotton pad and you will see that the splinter has arisen out of the skin surface.
  5. Pull it out and rinse the skin with help of warm water.

How it Works:

The vinegar is enriched with acidic properties that help the splinter to break out of the skin surface.

Epsom Salt

How To:

  1. Take a pinch of Epsom Salt and place it on a bandage.
  2. Apply this bandage on the affected area.
  3. Leave it on for at least eight hours.
  4. Remove the bandage and you will find that the deeply embedded splinter has drawn out.
  5. Pull it out with help of tweezers.

How it Works:

Epsom salt has the ability to draw out the water from the skin cell. This brings out the splinter and it is now easy to pull it out.
