Proper treatment of acne is required to avoid scarring.Dermatologist prefer topical retinoids or antibiotics for grade 1 acne, for grade 2 and 3 topicals and oral medication (antibiotics) will be required. For severe acne grade 3 and 4 oral retinoids may be given.Other treatment options especially for mild acne and post inflammatory pigmentation includes chemical peeling, photo-dynamic therapy, microdermabrasion, comedone extraction, etc. When a patient is on oral retinoids procedure are contraindicated, barrier contraception is advised, hydration of lips and protection of eyes is necessary. Post procedure sun protection is a must. For adults with jaw line acne hormonal imbalance must also be corrected.Diet: patients must be advised to avoid processed milk products and chocolates.
