Rice water for hair growth

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Cook rice in a rice cooker or on the stove.
  2. Strain when rice is nearly cooked.
  3. Let water cool to room temperature.
  4. Add essential oils mixed with carrier oil.
  5. Rinse hair with the rice water.

Easy Version

This method doesn’t require boiling and can be done when you plan to make rice.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of clean raw rice
  • 2–3 cups of water
  • Moisturizing product

Directions:

  1. Wash rice thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris.
  2. Place rice in an airtight container.
  3. Add water.
  4. Add a moisturizing product, like a conditioner, hair mask, or glycerin-based product.
  5. Close container.
  6. Leave to sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes and up to overnight.
  7. Strain the rice water into a spray bottle or another container.
  8. Apply rice water to hair.

Fermented Version

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup clean raw rice
  • 2–3 cups of water
  • 3–7 drops of essential oil of choice
  • 1 tbsp carrier oil

Directions:

  1. Place rice in a container.
  2. Add water and mix.
  3. Cover and leave at room temperature for 1–2 days.
  4. Strain the water.
  5. Add essential oils mixed with carrier oil.
  6. Rinse hair with rice water.
  7. Store remaining water in the fridge to stop further fermentation.

Application Tips

Experts suggest varying the duration and method of application to find what works best for you:

  • Leave on for up to an hour before rinsing thoroughly.
  • Leave on overnight if possible.
  • Apply rice water as if rinsing your hair and then wash your hair right after.
  • Massage your scalp with rice water, cover with a shower cap for 10 minutes, then rinse.
