Tips to protect hair from humidity

By Glowpink Staff

Healthy hair is a sign of good health and vitality. It enhances your natural beauty in the long run. Unfortunately, it is a little difficult to maintain hair in a tropical country like India. However, you can take good care of your hair to minimize the damage, I have listed down a few tips and tricks in this article that you can follow to get perfect hair even when it is hot and humid outside.

1. Use Good Shampoos:

If you intend to use flat iron and dryers, your hair will have to endure a lot of heat. So it is best to start in the shower and invest in a really good shampoo. You can buy the salon shampoos, which contain more oils, vitamins and minerals and less sulfate. If you have a preference, you can buy any kind of shampoo that fits your budget and suits your hair as long as you are sure that it is doing your hair justice. However, you must try to use an organic shampoo that uses the least amount of harsh chemicals like sulfates, dyes, and parabens.

2. Leave-in Conditioners:

There are a lot of leave-in conditioners that work against humidity. As the product stays on your hair throughout the day, your hair is less likely to be stripped of moisture. Hence, you are less likely to sport a head full of frizzy hair. Leave-in conditioners come handy especially if you travel often. Just spritz it on your hair and forget the hassle. You can purchase commercial leave-in hair conditioner and forget the hassle, Alternatively, you can also mix pure aloe vera gel with water and spritz it on your hair strands and then wash it off with your regular usage.

3. Silicone Balm:

Hair smoothening creams and balms make all the difference if you blow-dry your hair. These balms protect your hair from the heat and reduce frizz that is surely aftermath of blow-drying on a humid day. The balm also protects and seals in the moisture in your hair, so your hair will develop less frizz. If you use heat-based hair protectant tools every day or at least twice or thrice a week then definitely consider using one otherwise it will dry out your soft and lovely tresses. So if you want to keep your hair free from frizz and all the hassle then this is something that you must opt for.

4. Cold Splash:

After washing your hair, put some cold water in an atomizer or spray can. Now spray the water on your hair. This is going to close up your pores and seal the hair cuticles. So the atmospheric moisture will not interfere with your hairstyle. Besides that slightly dampening the hair is a good idea if you want to moisturize your tresses without using too much water.

5. Keep It Natural:

Keeping the frizz under control itself calls for a number of product and hair styling (or taming) measures. So do yourself a favor and don’t pile on extra work by trying to alter the texture of your hair. If you have straight hair, let it be; and the same goes for curly hair. Maybe this one season you can own who you are (hair-wise) and just run with it. Using more products can only cause unwanted damage to your hair. So, if you want to keep the frizz at bay then use the products that you actually require instead of stockpiling on loathsome goods.

6. Keep It Long:

Many of us, tired of the frizz and dried out hair, chop off our hair. But this is not as effective as we think it is. Just think about it; which type of hair gets frizzy and puffy quickly? Short, less volume hair or long hair? Due to sheer weight, long hair tends to be less bushy than shorter hair in the face of humidity. So, give it a thought before cutting your short, it may look trendy but itis more difficult to manage.

7. Keep It Tied:

If you have lush, long hair, and hence, this is definitely the last resort. But if you have not been able to put on all the precautionary balms and moisturizers on your hair, you can tie up your hair in a clip. So if your tresses get tangled up, they will at least not fly into your mouth. It is a difficult task to stay chic in a humid climate, but you can wear your hairties in style. Besides that, if you have long hair then there will be less dirt and debris trapped in your hair.

A diffuser ensures that the heat is spread evenly all over your hair and prevents it from getting dried up excessively.

9. Do not wash your hair more than once or twice a week

If you wash your hair more than once or twice a week then you are brewing trouble for yourself. First of all, it will strip your hair of its natural moisturizers and also dry out the layer of botanical oils naturally present in your hair follicles that helps your hair shafts to grow out fast. Hence you must not do it until and unless its an emergency.

I am sure most of you have learned the art of reusing your old t-shirts by now, oh yes you got my nerve. I was talking about using it as a replacement for your regular towel. Well, do you know that there is a correct way of using your towel, oh yes, you read that right. You need not comb your hair more than once or twice a day. We would never recommend combing your hair more than twice a day. Never ever comb your hair when your hair follicles are wet to avoid hair fall. Even if you want to comb your hair right after stepping out of the shower, then use a paddle brush or wide-toothed comb to detangle your tresses properly at first and then use a normal comb to get the best results. 14. Keep frizzy hair at bay by changing your pillowcase

I am sure that did not believe me at first but trust me, a small change will help you get a long way. Just change your pillowcase regularly, replace your regular cotton pillowcase with a silk pillow cover. Cotton pillow covers tend to draw out a lot of moisture from your tresses thereby rendering them dry and brittle so if you want smooth hair, then make sure that you use the right pillow-cover and change it after every 15 days to get stay clean and hygienic.
