How to Wash your Hair with Clay

However, to use clay correctly on the hair, you can follow certain steps to get the optimum results. The main steps are: oiling the hair, cleansing the hair and then conditioning the hair.


STEP 1 – Oil your Hair

  • Coconut oil

Coconut oil is very beneficial for the hair since it gets absorbed by the hair strands very easily. Once you apply it, it will nourish theh air and start improving the texture of your hair. Coconut oil also contains anti bacterisal and anti fungal properties. It helps in solving issues of dandruff. Oling the hair with coconut oil wll also make the hair softer and shinier. It will accelerate hair growth by preventing hair fall.

  • Olive oil

Olive oil is beneficial for the hair because it helps in deep conditioning the hair. It has essential fats in it which help to make the hair soft. Olive oil is also very commonly used for hair growth. Several have found that using olive oil in your hair can make them smoother and straighter.

  • Sweet almond oil

Sweet almond oil is effective for the hair because it helps in nourishing scalp. It gets absorbed in to the hair very easily since it is lightweight in nature. You can use any one of the following recipes to prepare your clay wash:

Fuller’s Earth and Aloe Vera Gel Wash

You will need:

  • ½ cup of fuller’s earth
  • ½ cup of aloe vera gel
  • 4 tablespoons of lemon juice

How to:

Mix the ingredients together.

Make sure the fuller’s earth has no lumps.

Apply the paste on your wet hair and start massaging the hair very well.

Massage the hair and the scalp for 10 minutes.

Rinse off using plain water.

Lemon juice is extremely beneficial for the hairs since it helps in adding shine and luster to the hair. Lemon juice also helps in deodorizing the scalp and acting as a cleanser. Fuller’s Earth and Flaxseed Gel Wash

  • ½ cup of fuller’s earth
  • ½ cup of flaxseed hair gel
  • 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds

How to:

  1. Mix the two ingredients together.
  2. Now apply the clay on your wet hair and massage until your hair are clean. This will take 10 minutes.
  3. Rinse off your hair using normal water.
  4. Do this remedy every time you need to shampoo.

Flaxseed gel contains several benefits for the hair. It is an excellent ingredient for people with curly hair. It is water based gel and can help in hydrating the hair and removing frizz without making the hair stiff or clumpy. Flaxseed gel gets easily absorbed into the hair. To prepare your flaxseed gel, just boil 4 tablespoons of flaxseeds in 1 cup of water and strain the gel immediately. Flaxseeds are a very rich source of omega 3 fatty acids which are crucial for the growth of the hair. Coffee grounds will help in exfoliating the scalp and stimulating the hair follicles. Exfoliating the scalp will also improve blood circulation and help in the nourishment.

Fuller’s Earth and Neem Wash

You will need:

  • ½ cup of fuller’s earth
  • 2 tablespoons of neem powder
  • ½ teaspoon of tea tree essential oil
  • 1/4th cup of water

How to:

  1. Mix all the ingredients together to get a paste.
  2. Wet your hair and apply the clay mixture on your scalp.
  3. Massage your scalp for 10 minutes.
  4. Rinse off your hair using normal water.

How this helps:

Tea tree essential oil will help in cleaning the scalp and getting rid of dandruff and other bacteria present on the scalp. Thus it will help in making your hair healthy. Neem powder has anti bacterial and anti fungal benefits. It will help in strengthening the hair and making them grow faster. This hair wash will be perfect for people who have oily and itchy scalp.

STEP 3 – After Care

After using clay for washing your hair, it is essential that you condition them as well. You can apply any conditioners of your choice and let it stay in the hair for a few minutes before rinsing it off.

If you have dry hair then avoid using clay mask as clay masks can be a little drying. If you want to use clay to wash your hair then use it only once every two weeks to prevent your hair from getting too dry.
