You are keen to test for pregnancy naturally when you are in TTC or Trying To Conceive stage. There are many types of tests available these days. But, the accuracy of the test results though depends on the ability of the test method adopted to measure the hCG hormone level in your body. If the test is more sensitive it can detect very low levels of hCG, and vice-versa.
The various levels for which most of the pregnancy tests are calibrated to detect are 20 mIU/ml, 50 mIU/ml and over 100 mIU/ml of hCG. So,if you test for pregnancy too early, it will often yield what are known as False-Negative results due to untraceable hCG levels. So many experts have the opinion that while in TTC stage you should start testing not sooner than 4-5 days before your next menstrual period is due, which should be a missed period actually.
After around 7 days of ovulation the hCG hormone level in a pregnant woman’s blood goes up to 50 mIU/ml. So, it can be safely assumed that after 7 to 10 days of ovulation most pregnant women have sufficient hCG levels to conduct test for pregnancy. If you get negative results, to rule out False-Negative results you should try again after three days of the previous test.
