The first beauty memory that most of us have is that of watching a woman in a movie, sitting in a salon wrapped in a bathing gown with a face mask on and two slices of cucumber on her eyes. We heard people talk about its usage and we instantly implemented it in our skincare regime. People told us it reduces dark circles and whenever we saw a dark hollow depth under the eye, we rushed to the fridge to get our hands on this cooling ingredient. But its benefits don’t just restrict to its cooling property or to the fact that it can lighten dark circles. It can be used as a 360-degree skin care treatment.

Before diving into the ways you can use it to benefit your skin, let’s look at the benefits it comes packed with.

Apart from cleansing, hydrating and repairing, cucumber can also help with a lot of beauty benefits as well. Let’s look at them so that the next time we are in a beauty fix, we know which ingredient to turn to.

Dark Circle Treatment

Removing dark circles using cucumber is an age-old remedy. It provides the cooling that the eyes require to relax and simultaneously, repair the dark circles too. Here is how you can do it.

Remedy-1

  1. Take a cucumber straight out of the fridge and cut it into a circular shape.
  2. Make sure to chop two thin slices.
  3. Apply it onto your face and let sit for 20 minutes.
  4. Remove it and wipe the area clean.

Remedy-2

  1. Juice the cucumber using a juicer or by blending it and then using a loosely woven cloth to extract the juice out.
  2. Add a Tsp of lemon juice to it.
  3. Using a cotton ball apply this concoction under your eyes.
  4. Be careful to not let it touch your eye.
  5. Let it sit till it dries.
  6. Wipe using a wet tissue or rinse using water.

Natural Toner

Cucumber works just fine to treat open pores and help in tightening it. It also adds a touch of nature to it which makes it better than the market product.

While using a toner from the market might come with added preservatives, making one at home and using it to cure pore issues as well as the ageing issue is a much better pick.

Remedy

  1. Make a homemade cucumber toner.
  2. Take a cotton ball and soak it with the solution.
  3. Apply it thoroughly after scrubbing your face to get rid of any dirt or gunk residue.
  4. Let your skin absorb the goodness of it.
  5. Lock it by applying a moisturiser.

Complete Body Treatment

One can benefit from this wonder veggie by not just using it on the face and neck but instead on the whole body.

Due to the amount of time we spend sitting on our chairs working on our laptops or running around reaching one place from another our body tires up and becomes stiff. Cucumber helps in relaxing the body and relieving it from the stress.

Remedy:

  1. Take a cucumber and extract its juice.
  2. Mix the extracted juice into the water that you will be using to bathe.
  3. It will relax the whole body and leave it with a cooling effect.
  4. Best during summers and after a tired day.

Natural Bleach

The mild astringent property of cucumber should be thanked for saving us from the damage that a chemical infused bleach can cause. While the effects with that are quicker, cucumber is all natural and will nourish and protect the skin while bleaching.

Remedy:

  1. Take a bowl and add 1 tbsp of cucumber juice, a Tsp of lemon juice and 1 tbsp of rosewater in it.
  2. Mix all the ingredients really well.
  3. Apply this to a cleansed face and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  4. Using cold water, wash it off your face.
  5. Pat dry.

Cures Cellulite

The extra fat on the thighs and around the butt is the most difficult to get rid off. While we spend our time in the gym trying to shed it out, adding cucumber to your skin regime will contribute further to cure the cellulite and tighten the skin.

Remedy:

  1. Take a bowl and add cucumber juice as per the requirement.
  2. Now, add aloe vera juice and ground coffee to it.
  3. Apply this to the place which you want to treat off cellulite.
  4. Cover it with a sarong or a warm cloth.
  5. Leave it on for 30 minutes for the properties to seep in.
  6. Remove it and wipe it clean.

While it tastes amazing with sandwiches and salads, cucumber being a vital ingredient in a lot of skin care products reflect upon the benefits that it can bring to the dressing table. Our skin is in a constant fight against pollution, dirt, gunk and makeup. Treating it once in a while with what they truly deserve is not much to ask for.

It is your face that attracts the first attention and having a puffy undernourished skin will not leave an impression that will last for a very long time to come. Just taking a little time out to use this ingredient and benefitting your own skin will be a time worth spent.

So the next time you think of treating your face from pimples, acne, pigmentation or ageing and want something strictly natural, we suggest give cucumber a try and pick it up. It will cleanse, repair and nourish leaving you with a skin that will glow brighter than the sun!

  12. Yes, topical application of cucumber slice over eyes is really good and not just an anecdote shown in films and TV. The skin under our eyes is quite delicate, cucumbers are a mild and gentle way of nourishing and rejuvenating the skin there. Cucumber is very hydrating as it is mostly made up of water and it is anti-inflammatory. Hence, it can soothe the skin, reduce any inflammation or swelling, and stimulate anti-oxidants on the skin to protect it from damage and make it healthier. That is how cucumber is effectual in treating your under eye dark circles and puffiness. Hope this was of some help. Have a good day.

  16. It is astonishing that you guys do not know or realize this already. I mean, you must have seen women lounging with cucumber slices over their eyes, relaxing. It is not just for relaxation but also improving the delicate skin around the eyes. The hydrating and soothing properties or cucumber along with its skin toning and bleaching properties, allows it to fade away the dark circles. It also helps absorb excess water which will help curb the bagginess. So, just cool down a fresh cucumber in your refrigerator and then cut off two medium thick slices. Keep the slices over your eyes and relax and lean back in a comfortable position and let the slices sit over there for like 15 to 20 minutes. Do this every day as much as you can find the time too and you will get your eyes and skin back to the normal great state it was.

I eat a bunch of slices of cucumber before I crash after a heavy day of drinking and know that there will be a hangover the next day. Cucumber helps to rehydrate the body’s nutrients and purge away the toxins that are now in the body courtesy of the drinking. Cucumber also contains some sugar, vitamin B, and electrolytes which will diminish the power of the hangover and the headache that comes with it. Hope this helps you out too 😛

  22. Me and my family went to the beach yesterday and I got really tanned and even sunburnt on my back and some other parts of my skin. It really hot nowadays and my sunscreen was too weak, I should have taken care of that. Anyways, can cucumber help me with these skin issues. I thought it very cooling and soothing and stuff so maybe it could be a help to me?? I like using natural ingredients to heal my problems. Please reply soon and suggest the remedy to reverse the harmful damage from the sun. Thanks.

  23. You thought right! Cucumber’ soothing and skin cooling properties does help a lot in reversing the damage from the sun and also fade the tan a bit too. It has astringent properties which help reverse the tan and it draws latent heat from inside the skin to provide relief from sunburns. But you should consult your doctor if you are badly sunburnt to get an appropriate ointment prescribed to you. Otherwise cucumber will help treat your issues. And you do no have to do much also, you can use cucumber directly. I would suggest you make a puree of cucumber and then apply the puree onto the affected part of your skin. You can leave it on your skin for as long as you can or want. It will provide soothing and relief to your skin and consequently you too. I hope you find this useful and get better soon.

  24. Hey guys, great post, just like always. I love eating cucumber, it is my favorite ingredient in any salad it is in. I never realized that it could also be used to treat a variety of our skin problems. I suffer from really bad acne and I get breakouts like every week. Will using cucumber or any remedies based off of it will help me fight the pimples?? Any info or remedies are appreciated here so please help me out. Thanks. I am looking for natural remedies, Store bought chemical based products do not suit my skin and commonly do more harm to my skin than helping it.

  25. People do use cucumber for the skin bust mostly they use it for cooling or soothing purposes. They do not realize that it is also great for preventing acne and breakouts. It has been shown in scientific studies that cucumber can lower the sebum (natural skin oils) levels considerably. These natural skin oil can attract dirt and dead skin cells which can clog up your skin pores and follicles which lead to the formation of pimples and breakouts. Consumption of cucumber helps control the level of sebum on the skin so just eating a bunch of cucumber regularly will help you with breakouts. But since you still struggle with acne, you can make a puree of cucumber in a blender or food processor and then use it as a topical application or scrub for the face. Use it daily and it will freshen up your skin and help prevent breakouts and acne. Hope you find some useful information in here. All the best.
