Normally using Magnesium sulfate can be an advantage to the normal hair when it is applied on your hair. But, it also has the ability to strip off the colors if applied on your hair. So, when you apply the Epsom salt on your color-treated hair, it might react with the applied color pigments in your hair. So, the color will start to fade slowly after using the Epsom salt mixture. This will lead the hair to return back to its original color. So, prefer using remedies that do not contain Epsom salt for the color treated hair.

My hair look really thin and flat and I wanted to add some volume to it. i have tried various remedies over time and some work some do not but I never got the result I wanted really. My hair is so flat because of my extremely oily scalp and skin. It weighs down my hair but epsom salt is specifically really good and effective at remedying that. 10. What is epsom salt? I do not even know about it. I think I may heard about it but not sure.

  11. @ Neha Singh – It is a common bath salt. It is made up of inorganic salt crystals which are made up from pure magnesium and sulfur. That is also the source of epsom’s salt scientific technical name which is Magnesium Sulfate. It is a great and relaxing ingredient for mineral baths. Nowadays, people are realizing that it is also great for the hair so its usage scope is increasing.

  12. @ Neha Singh – You are at a page about Epsom salt. Why would not you read it a bit instead of just commenting first. smh

  13. Epsom salt has been used for years and years as a bath salt to relax the body and also for treating the body of various issues and problems. Epsom salts contains minerals which are good for hair and make helps make them stronger. It helps cleanse your scalp and hair very well and make your hair thicker and adds volume to your hair. Overall, it can help make your hair look even better. It is great for usage in the hair if you are facing hair problems like hair loss, thinning hair or if you hair are too oily. It will get rid of your excess oiliness and provide a balance to your hair. Do try it, it is quite economical too.

  14. Epsom salt is actually great for hair, glad you guys realized this and made a great post about it. It is so extensive and full of actionable and valuable tips and remedies for treating tons of hair issue. However, you guys do not need to always prepare these mildly elaborate Hair masks and stuff. You can simply use epsom salt directly or straightforward and simple methods which I will share with you guys here. First of all, i want to say that women with oily hair should definitely try these tricks out as epsom salt is great for making your hair less oily and therefore adding much needed volume to your greasy hair. Okay, so here it goes; When you are washing your hair add equal amount of epsom salt to the amount of shampoo you use. Then wash your hair with that shampoo. Use it as you regularly shampoo. Once you have washed your hair once with the epsom salt infused shampoo. Go for it once again, what i mean is, wash your hair again with the epsom salt infused shampoo. The minerals will get infused better in your hair in the second wash as the first wash will be great for cleansing your hair and scalp of the impurities, dirt, dead skin cells and most importantly – the excess oils. Try this out if you have oily hair and I know you will be thanking me for turning you on to this. Maybe I can’t take all the credit for that, since this is a detailed post on using epsom salt for hair but still… I hope someone, anyone finds this useful, otherwise I don’t know why I wrote so much 😐

  15. Great article filled with so much useful and valuable information. May god bless you for your help and hard work.

  16. @ Patsy Fox – great tips for using epsom salt for oily hair. You can also use epsom salt for remedying dry and brittle hair in a similar way. Instead of using epsom salt by mixing it with shampoo, use it by mixing it with your conditioner. Shampoo your hair as normal and then use your conditioner mixed with equal amount of epsom salt. Massage it onto your hair and scalp thoroughly and make sure to cover all of you hair and scalp with it. Now, instead of washing it, leave it in your head for extended period of time, for about 20 minutes, then only wash it off. Use this every alternate time when you wash your hair or it could dry out your hair too much.

  17. Great post!! I was wondering where there were any alternatives which can be used in place of epsom salt? which has similar properties.

  18. @ Catherine – I would say you can use sea salt as an alternative to the epsom salt. Although, that would totally depend upon for what purpose you are going to use it for. If you are looking for something to use in your baths or such things like foot soaks, etc then I would say definitely go for sea salt as a nice alternative. If you want to treat your hair problems and issues, there are a ton of natural ingredients out there from which you can make a variety of masks and scrubs and things like that to treat both your skin and hair problems.

  19. Epsom salts actually are really good for hair too. Glad people are realizing that it has many more uses than just for relaxation in a bath. That feels really good and relaxing, I would be the first one to agree don’t get me wrong, but it has so many uses to make your life better and easier that it is almost crazy. And it is so cheap too. I am like whaaat?!? Yeah, it really is fantastic, look it up.

  20. @ Nancy Keller – I agree with you completely. It is so good that the miracle that the Epsom salt is getting more and more known every day. And that is thanks to great blogs like this one here which is helping to spread the word. And that is not just limited Epsom salt. Sites and blogs are run by more and more women and they are spreading the word around about effective natural ingredients and remedies. I am really grateful and excited for these new developments, I think it is the proper approach to personal health and this will help the masses break away from the cycle and grip of commercialization and capitalism and marketing. Keep on doing what you are doing, it is the right thing I assure you. Good luck in your future endeavors.

  21. Nice and detailed article. I love epsom salt, i use it for many many things all around inside and outside the house. It has so many uses. But I did not realize that it is so good for the hair too. Thank you a lot for making me, and more women like me aware of this.

  22. I really think that Epsom salt is a fantastic household ingredient. It is my firm belief that it is one of the ingredients which should be in every home just like vaseline and ACV. So, if you are reading this, and you do not have Epsom salt in your home, what are you waiting for? Go get some right now, or order it right now, we live in the twenty first century so we can do that.

  23. Hi. This is a really informative and useful post. Although, there is one thing that I wanted to know. Can we eat or ingest epsom salt? It is not toxic or anything like that, right?

  24. @ Marie Sanders – Eating or consuming epsom salt is not recommended generally. That is because of the high concentration of magnesium it can supply to the body and the bloodstream .You should not try to ingest epsom salt without a recommendation or prescription from your doctor. And even then it is consumed in small quantities and with a lot of water or other fluids to dilute it down as much as is feasible.

  25. @ Jodene Burns – Thanks a lot for clearing this up. You help and time is much appreciated.

  26. Epsom salt, also known as, Magnesium Sulphate, (or it should be the other way around) is great for the body. Many people’s body are deficient of this mineral but not many are aware about it. Epsom salt is the perfect remedy for that. Soaking in a relaxing Epsom salt bath is not just relaxing to your whole being but also actually provides really useful beneficial properties to your body. It is like a natural exfoliant for the skin and hence get rids of dead skin cells and hydrates the skin while supplying the beneficial mineral directly to your body. It is unfortunate that not all can harness a Epsom salt bath, but certainly use epsom salt, it can definitely be used in about a hundred different ways.

  27. Magnesium is fantastic and necessary for the good health of our hair. Epsom salt’s one primary ingredient is Magnesium so of course it is great for the hair. It is really effective strengthening the hair along with improving the scalp. It also makes your hair look much better by making them healthier and adding tons of volume and thickness to your hair. And these properties are just for hair. If you look into it, the useful characteristics of Epsom salt can make the biggest rabbit hole from which you will keep on finding stuff you did not know existed.
