Causes Behind Acne

The ubiquitousness of acne has procured a lot of information on what is it actually and what are the causes which result in this annoying and hideous skin issue. Still, there is no definitive answer regarding what causes acne. There are a few variables and conditions which increase the chance of occurrence of acne and breakouts. Following are a few most common reasons which result in breakouts and pimples on your skin.

  • Excess sebum and bacteria: Glands under the surface of your skin called sebaceous glands produce natural skin oils which protect and maintain your skin. These oils, together with dead skin cells or other impurities can clog up your pores to form a plug. These plugs can get infected from bacteria which lives on your skin, resulting in the formation of a pimple.
  • Hormonal Factors: An imbalance in hormones in your body can lead to breakouts and pimples.
  • Certain medications: Some drugs which contain corticosteroids, testosterone, or lithium in them can result in the occurrence of pimples and acne.
  • Specific Diet: There have been studies which have shown conclusively that the consumption of dairy products and carb-rich foods increase the likelihood of pimple formation on the skin.
  • Excessive stress: Stress and anxiety can worsen the symptoms of pimples and acne and cause breakouts to happen on your skin.

These are the most common and frequent factors which ultimately lead to pimple formation and breakouts.

  1. Hello every one! I am a 23 year old woman and I have an extremely sensitive skin. I have acne infections from the past 3 months on my facial skin. Often acne breakouts occur in my facial skin and this makes the infection to get spread from one area to the other. Also, these acne breakouts heal by leaving a scar on my face that literally looks awful. It makes my face look very dull and unattractive. Can I use essential oils on my sensitive skin? Are they suitable for the people who have sensitive skin type like me? Will it cause any side effects on my skin?

  2. Can I apply tea tree essential oil directly on the acne infections? Will it help in curing the acne infections or cause any side effects?

  3. @ THAOH FUNAI. Hello THAOH FUNAI! Never try to use tea tree oil directly on your face. Tea tree essential oil is known to be very strong one when compared with the other essential oils. So when you apply it directly on your skin or acne, it might react with it and also lead the infection to get aggravated. So, you have to be really careful while using it on your skin. You can either dilute it with any other oils like coconut oil, almond oil or you can mix with a few drops of purified water or fresh lime juice and then use it on your face. Or you can also use it as per the recipe that is given in this article. But make sure that you don’t use it in concentrated form as it might even make your skin to get peeled off or burned.

  4. @ KAZUKO BITON. Hi KAZUKO BITON! I cannot tell that essential oils are completely safe to be used on the sensitive skin types. It can aggravate your infection also and cause irritations, burning and inflammations on your skin. This occurs because the essential oils are naturally concentrated ones. But then you can still use them on your sensitive skin types in a completely diluted format. You can mix 1 drop of essential oil instead of 3 drops. This can make the essential oil to be very less concentrated when applied on skin. So this will not cause any side effects on your skin. And also, it s safe to use on skin as it is highly diluted one. Also you can use it once in a week instead of using it very often. Using it very often on sensitive skin types can also make your skin to get affected by the higher concentration of the essential oil.

  5. @ KAZUKO BITON and AHANA KAPOOR. I completely agree with AHANA KAPOOR. Everything that was said by is absolutely correct. When the essential oil is in highly diluted form, then it is safe to be used on skin. But then, you have to be really very careful while using it in even in the normal skin types. And when it comes to sensitive skin types, you really have to be with an extra care. It is better if you do a patch test and see on the other part of your skin before using it completely. Make sure that you are comfortable with the remedial mixture when you apply it on your skin. When you feel uncomfortable soon rinse the area with cold water and apply some moisturizer. When you find that the mixture doesn’t suit your skin then automatically you have to switch to the other remedies which could be non-allergenic to you.

  6. Is it necessary to add a carrier ingredient with the essential oils before using them on our skin? Why can’t we use them directly without mixing it with the other ingredients? Will it harm our skin if we use it in undiluted form?

  7. Hey guys! I am a 23 year old woman and I work in a private firm. As most of the ladies have, I was also having those depressing acne infections on my skin. I used a lot of products to cure those acne infections on my face. But then nothing worked out in clearing those acne infections. And after a few days it came to a level where I started hating to see my face in the mirror. I really lost all my confidence in facing the people in my daily life due to those acne infections on my face. One day my mother advised me to read this article by sharing it with me. Then I also read it like how I read the other daily. I had no hope on the natural remedies that are given over here. Due to the constant pressure of my mother, I finally came to a conclusion of trying the lavender essential oil on my face and acne infections. But then you may not believe it. It really worked very well on my face. Even I was in a great shock and now I am free from those depressive acne infections on my face. This really did a magic on my face in a very short time. I am very much happy after using them on my face. So guys please use it if you want to get rid of those acne infections on your face.

  8. Cool ideas with a brief explanation! Really loved this article. Keep sharing more and more such articles.

  9. @ YASMIN ANTHONY. Hey YASMIN ANTHONY! You can notice a common thing regarding the essential oils while using it on our face, skin, body or hair. It will always be mixed with a carrier ingredient and then will only be used on the specified area. This is because most of the essential oils have a higher concentration when compared to the other natural oils like the coconut oil, olive oil and many more. Each of the essential oils has a strong odor that offers a pleasant fragrance when applied on the target area. But then if you apply it in an undiluted form, the odor might be too strong for you. It might also make you feel uncomfortable and some people might even get headache or vomiting sensations when the odor is too strong. And the next primary reason is it might cause server effects on your skin or hair or face when applied in concentrated from. So do not use it without diluting it. Make sure that you use them with a carrier ingredient no matter whatever the target area might be.

  14. Hi! I am a 26 year old woman and I have an oily skin type. Which oil is best to be used on the acne prone oily skin? Can I use any of the face masks that are specified in this article? Or is there any essential oil specifically suitable for acne prone oily skin? If there are any, can you please mention it over here?

  15. @ JACKLYN NOBEL. Hello JACKLYN NOBEL! You might think that it is mentioned that essential oils are safe to be used on our skin normally. SO why not to leave the mask to be there on our face for overnight. But then though these oils are safe, they are not that safe to leave them on our face for overnight. No matter whether it is a natural or a man-made ingredient everything has its own time and properties. When you leave these essential oil face masks on your face for overnight, then there are many chances for the oil to react too much on your skin. You may get some sort of irritation, burning sensation on your skin which might lead to redness, inflammations and other side effects. Sometimes, it can also make the acne infections to become very worse. So, never leave those essential oil masks to be on your face for overnight. It is not a healthy way no matter whatever skin type you have.

  16. Hello people! I have a very dry skin naturally. Will the usage of these essential oil masks on my masks cause excessive dryness on my face? If yes, then can you please tell some tips to overcome this excessive dryness occurred due to the essential oils?

    • Raw honey
    • Freshly squeezed lime juice
    • Purified water
Firstly, you have to take a small bowl and add all the given ingredients into it one by one. Then mix all the ingredients well until all of them get combined well. 18. Hello guys! Apart from the essential oils that are specified in this article, there is another essential oil that will also help you in curing the acne infections on your face. I really tried it on the acne infections on my face and it really offered me with the effective and desired results. Yeah clove essential oil also has the ability to cure the acne infections on your facial skin. You can use them regularly on your facial skin for getting a speedy recovery from the acne infections. You can mix a few drops of clove essential oil with about 1 tbsp of coconut oil or olive oil and use it on your face. Or you can also mix it with the regular moisturizer or the lotion which you apply daily on your face. Make sure that you do not use the clove essential oil in an undiluted form as it is highly concentrated like the tea tree oil. It might lead to burning of skin, redness, irritations and inflammation on your skin. So, be very careful while using it. Also do a patch test before you apply it on the targeted areas. If you face any issues, then avoid using it. Prefer for some other essential oil or some other remedy.

  19. @ FERNANDA JHONSON. Wow! This is really nice FERNANDA JHONSON. I’ve never heard of clove essential oil before and I don’t even know that there is an essential oil in such a name. I suggest all those women who have the acne infections to try them out at least for a few days. You will really be impressed with the results it offers you. 20. Hey guys! For some people using the essential oils on their face and the face masks might be too heavy and could also cause infections or other side effects. So, here is another remedy that does not involve any essential oil in it. This face mask is completely a natural one like the other essential oil face masks that are specified in this article. These natural ingredients will not cause any side effects on your strong and they are also not too strong like the essential oils. Also, they actively cure all the acne infections on your face without leaving any scars or marks on that area. So, you can very well prefer using this if you have extremely sensitive skin types. For this you will be requiring the following ingredients.
    • A few fresh neem leaves
    • 1 tbsp of finely ground turmeric powder
    • 3 tbsp of purified water
Firstly, wash the fresh neem leaves and place all of them in a mixer or a grinder. Start to grind the neem leaves until it turns to a fine paste. You can also add a few drops of purified water if you want the consistency of the paste to be fine. Once it is done, then place the neem paste in a small bowl. Now add 1 tbsp of finely ground turmeric powder into the neem paste. Mix both the ingredients very well until all the turmeric powder gets dissolved completely in the neem paste. You can also add a few drops of water if the consistency is too thick. Make sure that the consistency is neither too thick nor light which could be comfortable for applying it on your face. Now start to apply the neem and turmeric paste all over your face. Allow the paste to be there on your face for a few minutes of about 10 to 15 minutes. Then rinse your face with warm or cold water. You can follow this regularly until all the acne on your face gets cleared and treated well.
