  • Non- Contaminated Leaf: The dandelion leaf that is being used should not contain any contamination particles on it. You should pluck the leaf present in a clean environment. Contaminated leaves can make the results to go wrong with false reading. So, you should be very careful while collecting the leaf.
  • Avoid Peeing On Leaf: You might think that peeing directly on the leaf could be a better option. But, you should not do it. The key factor in this test is that the leaf should get submerged entirely in urine. So, peeing directly will make only a few drops of urine to be on the leaf. This cannot offer you proper results. The leaf will remain the same even if you are pregnant in such conditions. So, avoid peeing directly on the leaf.
  • One Hour Gap: After making the leaf to submerge in urine, you should strictly wait for an hour. You should not see the results before the specifies time. This will not make your results to be positive if you are pregnant. So, follow the time duration correctly for observing the results.

Early Symptoms Of Pregnancy

There are many early symptoms of pregnancy that are experienced by most pregnant women. This can help you in finding whether if you have got conceived or not. Following are some of the early symptoms of pregnancy.

Missed Periods

Missing your period can be considered to be one of the most obvious early symptoms of pregnancy. Pregnancy occurs due to the fertilization process[10] happening in your uterus. When this occurs your uterus will stop releasing eggs. This will eventually stop the menstruation from occurring. So you will start missing your periods even after the due date. Missing the periods might occur due to various factors like stress, climate change, overeating and weight change. But this can be considered to be the primary change that happens in your body during pregnancy.

Initially, you can’t take this as a final result. But when you don’t get periods even after a few days, then you can take up the pregnancy test to confirm it. Taking up the pregnancy test as soon as you miss your periods will not help you. It will offer negative and false results. So, it is better to wait for some time after missing the periods for taking up the tests. This symptom is worth taking if you were trying to get conceived. It is better to consult a doctor when there are no signs for periods.

Spotting Or Bleeding

Spotting or Bleeding can be defined as the discharge of blood from the vagina. The blood starts appearing at the wrong times during your menstrual cycle. This happens due to the implantation of the fertilized eggs. During pregnancy, the fertilized eggs will get attached to the walls of the uterus. When this happens, light bleeding will occur in your vagina. This will happen anywhere between 6 to 12 days after the eggs are fertilized.

This will be often accompanied by cramps[11]. This is often termed to be the concrete symptoms of pregnancy. The blood that gets discharged will be in a very small amount. The bleeding will not occur like how it happens during your periods. So, it should not be mistaken as periods. When you notice blood discharge at inappropriate times, then it is better to take up a pregnancy test. You can also consult a doctor after getting this symptom.

Nausea Or Vomiting

Nausea or Vomiting can be termed as one of the classic indicators for pregnancy. This will occur after the fertilization of eggs happens. Vomiting may vary from person to person. This might take some time to happen in certain women. You will be continuously having this symptom during your pregnancy. The fertilized eggs will increase the vomiting sensation in your body.

The other main reason is that when the level of HCG pregnancy hormone gets increased, it results in vomiting. This can happen anywhere between 2 to 3 weeks after the eggs are fertilized. This can happen at day or night irrespective of the time. Once you get this symptom continuously it is better to take up the pregnancy test and consult a doctor.

Nausea

Sensitivity To Smell

You might find your level of sensitivity to smell getting amplified. The normal slightest smell could have been turned into the strongest odor for you. These smells can also make you puke very often during the pregnancy. This can be due to various reasons. Some of the common reasons are specified below.

  • HCG Hormone: The HCG hormone becomes the factor for most of the symptoms that happen during pregnancy. Even for this symptom, the HCG hormones stands as the reason. This increase in the level of HCG hormone increases your sensitivity to smell. This will eventually cause nausea and vomiting.
  • Increased Blood Flow: The blood circulation in your body gets increased at the time of pregnancy. This is because the volume of plasma in your body gets doubles during the pregnancy. So, this will make the blood to reach your brain very faster than usual days. So, the smell picked up by the olfactory nerves will be sensed very soon. This will, in turn, make you be more responsive to the odor.
  • Protection From Toxins: When your sensitivity to smell gets increased, you will be able to find the toxins very easily. This can help you to stay away from the toxins, chemicals and other poisons. This will prevent your baby from any danger. So, this will act as a protective mechanism in preventing you from getting into trouble.

Some of the most commonly noticed smell that could make to puke are as follows.

  • Meat
  • Garlic
  • Eggs
  • Gas
  • Sanitizers
  • Napkins
  • Outside foods
  • Onions
  • Animals
  • Damp smell
  • Soap and products containing more chemicals
  • Milk products
  • Strong Perfume

The level of sensitivity to these items will vary from one woman to another. Some might feel mild sensitivity to these smells. While others might feel a strong sensitivity to these smells. This sensitivity to smell will gradually stop when the HCG hormone starts to settle down. Until then, avoid these nauseating smell and surround yourself with the pleasant ones. Stay away from harmful smokes and cigarette. Once you find this symptom, you can take up the pregnancy test and consult a doctor.

Metallic Taste

This might sound weird but still, this is one of the most common symptoms that pregnant women have. This symptom is denoted by a medical term called dysgeusia. The estrogen hormone[12] plays an important role in causing this symptom. This estrogen hormone is one of the types of pregnancy hormone. This is responsible for controlling and monitoring your taste buds at the time of pregnancy. So, the level of this hormone will get obviously increased during pregnancy. A sour metallic taste will be persisting in your mouth even after having your food.

This taste will be reflected even while drinking coffee or water. This taste might make you feel uncomfortable while having food. For some women, this hormone might take a longer duration to get concentrated. And for a few, it might get increased rapidly. So, the level of this metallic taste solely depends on the concentration of the hormone in your body. This metallic taste will gradually decrease as your pregnancy progresses. This will happen once the hormones start settling down in your body. You can get clarified by taking up the pregnancy test when you have this symptom.

Breast Changes

This could be one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy in most of the women. You can find your breasts getting swollen and tender. In some conditions, this might also happen even before confirming the pregnancy results. Your body will start preparing your breasts to secrete milk. The areoles[13] in your breasts will become darker day by day. As soon as the hormone gets secreted, this change will occur.

The hormones will also make the muscles around your nipples bumpier than usual. This region of the breast is commonly termed as  Montgomery’s tubercules. These are the sebaceous glands[14] that secrete oil in your breasts. This will help your breasts to get prepared for breastfeeding. The veins in your breast region will become noticeable during pregnancy. During the earlier weeks, it will start to look blue or green in color. Wearing proper inner wears that comforts your breast is very vital during this time. You can confirm your pregnancy by taking up any of the pregnancy tests after observing the changes.

Fatigue

Fatigue is one of the reasons that drains the entire energy in your body. You will feel excessive tiredness as the pregnancy progresses. You may find it very difficult to do your day-to-day activities. Your body will be longing for taking rests all the time. This symptom is mainly caused due to the hormone progesterone[15] in your body. During the pregnancy, this hormone will form a protective layer in your uterus. It continues to support the uterus lining until the birth of the baby. It forms a suitable environment in your uterus for the growth of the embryo.

As the embryo develops, the secretion of this hormone gets increased rapidly. So, you will find yourself looking very dull and down. You may find yourself exhausted for the entire day. Taking enough rest during pregnancy is very essential for proper baby growth. Insufficient rest to your body and mind can affect the growth of your baby to a greater extent. Both your physical balance and the emotional balance will be getting disturbed due to this.

Basal Body Temperature

Charting your basal body temperature will provide a valuable insight and the necessary information about your menstrual cycle. Checking your temperature every morning can tell when you have ovulated. This can help in detecting your pregnancy if you have been charting the temperature. When you note it continuously, it can help you in understanding your body. You can predict by noticing the temperature ranges and variations. Once you get adapted with your temperature cycle, you can determine the exact day of ovulation.

You can also detect the length of your leutal phase with the basal body temperature. Your body temperature gets increased after the ovulation. It remains high until your period starts. This can help you to increase the chances of conceiving by planning the intercourse properly. The leutal phase is the one which happens after the ovulation. This phase should last at least for 10 days which helps in implantation to occur. Your basal body temperature might remain to be high after 18 days following the ovulation. This indicates that you are pregnant. You can take up the pregnancy test after this symptom.

Bloating

Bloating could be one of the most common symptoms that will be experienced by pregnant women. The bloating normally occurs due to the increase in the level of gas in your stomach region. Usually, the level of progesterone in your body goes down during your periods. This will make the bloat to disappear until your periods end. When you become pregnant, you will not find any signs of pregnancy. If you find the bloat to appear even after the expected date of periods, then you can take up some pregnancy tests.

You might feel your clothes getting tighter around your tummy region. There are various reasons for bloating to occur during pregnancy. Some of the most important reasons are as follows.

  • Uterus Growth: The fertilized eggs get attached to the walls of your uterus at the 4th week of your pregnancy. This means that implantation is taking place in your uterus.
  • Weight Gain: Weight gain during your pregnancy can be one of the major reason for bloating to occur. You tend to eat a lot of food during your pregnancy. So, your body weight will be increased.
  • Gas: Progesterone and Relaxin are the two hormones that are responsible for the stretching of the pelvic region. As a result, gas formation gets increased in your stomach. This will eventually lead to indigestion, sourness, and eventually bloating.

Headaches

The reason for this symptom is due to the hormonal changes happening in your body. The increased blood circulation in your body is the factor for causing a headache during your pregnancy. The headaches are also the signs of dehydration or anemia in your body. As your pregnancy progresses, all these signs will eventually get reduced. So, a headache can be considered to be one of the early signs of pregnancy. If you have all these symptoms then it is better if you consult a doctor or take up the pregnancy tests.

Headache

Frequent Cold/ Stuffing Nose

The increase in the hormone level makes the passage in your nose to get swelled. This, in turn, leads to an increase in the amount and the thickness of the mucous layer. It might also further lead to the drying out of your nose. In some conditions, this will cause bleeding in your nose. So, pregnant women will often have this symptom at their early stages of pregnancy. A pregnancy test can be taken to ensure your pregnancy after getting this symptom frequently.

Crave For Food / Food Aversions

Food craving is very common during pregnancy to crave odd combinations of food. These might also be the foods that you have never wanted to eat before. The rapid change in the hormones level can be one of the major reasons for this. Early metabolism could be another reason why you long to have a lot of food items. As the blood circulation gets increased suddenly, your body will tend to do a lot of work. So, this can also be a major reason for this symptom during pregnancy. You might find this symptom from 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Some of the common food cravings include ice-cream, chocolate, fish, dairy products, fruits and other sweet food items. Prolonged duration of this symptom can result in a positive result during the test. So, it is better if you consult a doctor for confirming it.

Mood Swings

Mood changes during pregnancy can be caused by various factors. Some of the common factors are physical stresses, fatigue, changes in your metabolism, or due to the hormone levels of estrogen and progesterone. Rapid changes in your hormone levels will directly affect your level of neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters are the brain chemicals which are responsible for regulating your mood. These mood swings are mostly experienced during the first 10 weeks of your pregnancy. It can be anywhere between 6 to 10 weeks and then again in the third trimester. This is because your body starts to prepare for giving birth.

Constipation

Constipation is one of the most common early symptoms of pregnancy. Most of the pregnant women get constipated at some point. The increase in the level of hormone progesterone could be one of the main reasons for constipation during pregnancy. It relaxes the smooth muscles throughout the body, including the digestive tract. This means that food passes take a long time to pass through the intestinal tract.

And this constipation problem may be compounded later in pregnancy. This can happen by the pressure of your growing uterus on your rectum. Taking iron supplements in large quantities can make constipation to become even worse. You should drink a lot of water and eat fiber-rich food to get rid of this symptom.

Lower Backache

The hormone Relaxin is also a type of pregnancy hormone which tends to work during your pregnancy. This hormone will work by preparing your body for childbirth during the pregnancy. So, this hormone relaxes all the ligaments in and around your pelvic region. This condition can result in lower back ache at the very early weeks of pregnancy. Taking enough rest is very essential during your pregnancy. You can take up the pregnancy test to confirm your pregnancy.

Peeing More Often

During the pregnancy, your body becomes bigger and bigger. This is caused due to the growth of the baby inside your uterus. So, the baby that is growing will be pushing against your bladder. That is why peeing occurs more often during your pregnancy. Another major reason is the increase in the level of HCG pregnancy hormone. When this increases, the blood flow to your kidney gets increased. This will increase the amount of peeing to 25% higher. So, this can be considered to be one of the early symptoms of pregnancy. This will usually happen at 8 to 12 weeks of your pregnancy. It gets even worse as your baby grows and reaches the end of pregnancy.

Peeing more often can also lead to the occurrence of urinary tract infection or bladder infection. It is known to be one of the most common signs of pregnancy. This can also be stated that it is caused due to the change in the level of hormones in our body. Once you are affected by this symptom, then it is better if you consult a doctor very soon. Prolonged infection can lead to other infections in your urinary tract.

Vaginal Discharge

The cervix region in our body gets cleaned through a discharge called leucorrhea. This waste discharge will be thick and milky. It gives a musky smell while getting discharged. This happens during your entire lifetime. But, this discharge will happen more during your pregnancy durations.

Fainting And Dizzy

Headache and dizziness are the most common symptoms you get during your pregnancy. This will be more common when waking up very soon during the mornings. Increase in the hormone levels is the key reason for this symptom. These hormones make your blood vessels to relax and get widen. This can make you feel more dizzy and tired. This is also termed to be the earliest common symptom that every woman gets during her pregnancy times. The dizziness can often make them faint many times during their pregnancy.

Thrush

The rapid increase in the progesterone level is the major reason for thrush. Most of the pregnant women will suffer due to this symptom. The increase in the vaginal discharge can be blamed for thrush to happen. This will be accompanied by increased itching, soreness and stinging while passing the urine. Thrush can lead to other urinary infections also. So, once you are affected by thrush, it is better to consult a doctor.

  1. Great article on home remedies to test if you are pregnant or not. I am sure this will help out many women all over the world who are worried and can’t get a pregnancy test for some reason.

  2. Nice and really helpful post! I was really worried last month that I was pregnant but then I got my period so it was all good

  3. How to tell if you are pregnant at home without a kit?? pls someone reply I am in need of help.

  4. If you can’t get your hands on a commercial pregnancy testing kit you can try a few homemade tests to figure out if you are pregnant or not. But these tests are not 100% reliable and make sure that you visit and consult your doctor if you think you are. One easy way to test if you’re pregnant or not is by peeing in a jar. Then, leave it as is for about a day and then check its surface. If there is a white layer on the top of the jar then it might mean that you are pregnant. Consult your doctor as soon as you can after that. Hope this was of some help.

  5. There is another home method you can also try. first, collect some of urine. take half cup of white vinegar in a cup or bowl or something (it should be completely clean). Then put your urine on the white vinegar and keep an eye on it for 5 to 10 minutes. If there is a change in its color that might be a signal of pregnancy but as Patricia stated, it is not a 100% confirmation as it is just a home test. You still need a proper confirmation from your doctor, so consult them soon if you think you might be pregnant. Good luck

  6. There are tons of home tests given in the post, you can learn about them and use a few of them to test out your pregnancy.

  7. Hi, i am in need of some help, hope some of you can help me. I am about 2-3 weeks late for my period, and I did take a pregnancy test about a week ago and it was negative. But I still am not sure as I am showing symptoms of pregnancy. Is it at all possible that the test was wrong??

  8. Yes, you can get a false negative with home tests. It is rare but it does happen. I would suggest that you take another test. If that also is negative then you should definitely see your doctor to figure out the symptoms or have a more thorough test of your pregnancy.

  9. Yes, that is entirely possible if you have unprotected sex, does not matter how many times.

  10. If that happens, you are sure that one of them is faulty or false positive. So, i suggest you take a couple more tests to figure out whether you are really pregnant or not. Hope this helps.

  11. If you had unprotected sex in the last month, you should take a home pregnancy test to confirm.

  12. Great post! this kind of stuff is kind of taboo so not many women are aware of this. thank you glowpink for speaking out and spreading some information around to vanquish ignorance. Keep up such good work and I know you guys will climb to the top.

  13. Hi, me and my girlfriend had sex about 2 weeks ago but I used protection. She is now scared as she missed her period which was supposed to come this week. Could she be pregnant??or is there some other reason for her not getting her periods. Pls reply soon i am very anxious

  14. Hey Terry, you should not worry unnecessarily, if you used protection it is fine. Delayed period is not a sure sign of pregnancy. Look for other pregnancy symptoms like nausea, morning sickness, fatigue, cramps and more are given in the article. You can also test using a home remedy or a commercial. Tell her to consult her doctor to figure out why the periods are delayed.

  15. hey glowpink, me and my boyfriend had sex about two weeks ago which was unprotected. I took a contraceptive pill afterward. Now, i got my period about a week early. I am also experiencing vomiting and nausea and bloating and also have a mild fever. Is it possible that i could be pregnant. please reply as soon as possible. thank you.

  16. Hi Amber, as you took a contraceptive pill and also got your period, it is highly unlikely that you are pregnant. nausea, bloating, vomiting and irregular periods are some common and temporary side effects which emergency contraceptive pills can have so there is no need to worry. These effects should go away in a few days at most, depending upon your metabolism. See you doctor if the signs don’t go away after a few days.

  17. Ladies, I want to make sure that you all know that you cannot know that you are definitely pregnant unless you have had an actual confirmation from a doctor. Even if you have a positive pregnancy test it means that you are probably pregnant. There is a very high chance if your test comes positive but still not 100% surety is there. Your pregnancy will only be confirmed, and the key word here is confirmed, only when there is a visualization of fetus on ultrasound, or the movements of fetus is detected by a doctor, or the heartbeat of your fetus is detected by doppler. So, these tests and early sign may hint you that you are pregnant but understand that they could easily be wrong or just due to some other issue or change in your body. Stay healthy 🙂

  18. Yes! preach. you are right. You can never be 100% sure without a hormone test or confirmation from your doctor.

  19. Can having a little high body temperature in the morning, along with an upset stomach and more fuller breasts, be signs that I am pregnant?

  20. Yes, these could be signs but definitely not a confirmation. Temperature levels do rise when you are pregnant and morning sickness is quite common in pregnancy. Take a test or consult with your doctor to confirm if you are not.

  21. Hi, me and my boyfriend of 2 years had unprotected sex last week for like 3-5 minutes. Is there a chance that I could get pregnant? please reply soon I am kind of anxious

  22. Yes, it is certainly possible for your to get pregnant this way, it does not matter how much time you had unprotected sex, any time a penis goes into a vagina without contraception or protection, there is a chance of pregnancy. That is why the tests are available for you to make sure if you are pregnant or not and avoid undue worry. Although, you will only have sufficient HCG levels (that is the hormone which indicates pregnancy) after about a week of conception. Since, a week has passed in your case, you can try out pregnancy test to gain more clarity on whether you are pregnant or just worried unnecessarily. Hope this helps. good luck.

  23. Hey ladies, I just wanna say one thing – stop having unprotected sex if you do not want to get pregnant. as simple as that. 😀

  24. How can I tell if I am pregnant within the first week?? I am asking this because someone told me that home pregnancy tests only work after about 8 days after you have conception. Is that correct? can someone clear up these things for, I will be very grateful. Thanks in advance and good day.

  25. Yes, you have been told correctly, A responsive pregnancy test will be able to confirm your pregnancy from approximately 8 days after conception. However, a pregnancy test is most trustworthy when taken on or after the first day of a missed period. Read the instructions which came with your pregnancy test to see whether it is responsive enough to verify your pregnancy after 8 days. Although, always remember that taking a pregnancy test too early can show a false negative (showing that you are not pregnant even though you are) Also, no test is completely accurate; You should consult your doctor as soon as possible for a reliable confirmation. Good luck and have a good day.

  26. Thank you for your comment!! It really helped me out. Thanks again and Good day to you too.

  27. Hi guys. I’m newly married but me and my hubby have been together for over two years now. I was on birth control pills but stopped taking them in March I think. We do have unprotected sex and he also finishes inside me as we are trying to get pregnant. But it didn’t seem to work for the first couple of months. Now, as of today I am 3 days late, also I have nausea, aversion to some smells which I can’t stand now. I vomit or poop out pretty much anything I eat or drink. My tummy area hurts and now my lower back does too. However, my breast are not really any more sensitive. Also, I’m feeling really tired and so lazy too. So, I took three home pregnancy tests and they all came back negative. what should I do? please assist me and thank you in advance.

  28. Hi Claire, You have to take the pregnancy tests at least one or two weeks after the due date of your missed periods to get accurate results. your body won’t have adequate HCG to show that you are pregnant within a week of conception so there is that too.

  29. You do have signs of pregnancy but you should not get ahead of yourself. Wait for about a week after your missed period and then take the home pregnancy test to get a more accurate reading of your pregnancy. Hope this helped.

  30. Hello team glowpink, I’ve recently went to my gynecologist to find out why my period times are a bit irregular and confused, he gave me 2 months ovulation pills to get my hormones and period cycle back on track, sometimes more than once after sex I get really sharp pains after an orgasm. My breasts have swollen a lot and I can feel large bumps inside. I am almost finished my 1st month’s pills and were supposed to start with my period 1 day ago according to the “red pills” of my cycle. Please explain me what may cause these symptoms if not the pills. Thank you in advance.

  31. Dear Marie, you may experience severe breast swelling and discomfort for a few months, while others reveal less distinct warning signs that your menstrual cycle is right around the corner. Once your periods comes to an end, the pain in the breast usually goes down. If not, please consult your gynecologist about the pain. Hope this helped.

  32. Hi ladies, I think I may be pregnant… Now I typically have irregular periods and I was once told I might not be able to have children. But then I started to receive my periods again regularly but then I missed my last period and I have backs pains cramps. I also have food cravings, mood swings, bloating ,headaches and I’m feeling more tired than ever. But I’m not sure if I am or not. What should I do, please help. Thanks.

  33. Hi Emma, is there any particular reason for your irregular periods and did you discuss this issue with your gynecologist ?? There may be many reasons behind irregular periods and it would be wise for you to talk about this issue with your doctor and figure out the correct issue and solutions to it. Also, all the symptoms mentioned by you are usually considered to be the signs of pregnancy….so I would suggest that you do take a home pregnancy test and consult a doctor. All the best.

  34. Wow! I did not have any idea that there are so many home remedies which can be utilized to test whether you are pregnant or not. This is amazing. Great job in compiling this for the ease and accessibility of all. I love it!

  35. Yup, i mean the commercial pregnancy test did not always exist and women had to find out somehow whether they were pregnant or not. that is how these methods got developed and discovered over time. But these have varying rate of success and accuracy and none of them come close to the accuracy of the home pregnancy test which are available in the market today so… they detect pregnancy with up to 97% accuracy, which is pretty great if I do say so myself.

  36. Awesome post!! so many home remedies to feast your eyes on. I don’t even know which one would i go for. I am not pregnant (I will have to get some for that to happen lol) but I am definitely bookmarking this page for later. i am sure I will find some use for it in the future, hopefully at least lol or no, not hopefully haha. toodles.

  37. This is a splendid and comprehensive and detailed article. You people’s hard work really shows here. keep it up and all the best for your future.

  38. I have missed my period and it has been over a month now. My breasts hurt, there are times I want food then there’s times I don’t, I’ve been feeling really tired lately, and lately I haven’t been wanting to do anything really active. I also haven’t taken a pregnancy test but are these signs of pregnancy?

  39. Hi Shraddha, missed periods, change in appetite, tiredness can signal pregnancy, but not necessarily so. To be sure you will need to take a pregnancy test, this is what this post is about, there are tons of home tests here but if you really think you are pregnant and some home tests also show it, i would suggest that you try a market pregnancy test asap. Missed periods can also be because of nutritional deficiency, stress, fatigue etc. It would be sensible for you to consult a gynecologist. Good luck.

  40. facing an unplanned pregnancy can be really really stressful for a girl. So it is good that you guys are providing resources to women to take care of themselves rather than wasting time worrying. I approve.
