What is the generic name (s)?

Wikoryl Syrup contain four substituents in following proportions for 1 ml solution

  • Chlorpheniramine  2 mg,
  • Phenylephrine 5 mg,
  • Paracetamol 250 mg,
  • Sodium Citrate 60 mg

How does it work ?

Chlorpheniramine Maleate: Belongs to a class of medicines called antihistamines. Whenever there is an attack of substances which cause allergy, a chemical substance called histamine gets secreted which needs to be blocked. This generic hinders the histamine, thereby relieving the symptoms of allergy.

Phenylephrine Hydrochloride: It causes constriction of the blood cells causing a reduction in the swelling of the tissues of the nose by stimulating the receptors present on them. Because of this the nasal congestion gets relieved as there is a decrease in the blood flow in the nose blood vessels.

Paracetamol : It is an analgesic or in simple terms a painkiller and also a fever reducing antipyretic. Basically it raises the threshold level of pain and acts on that region of brain which regulates the body temperature. This causes an increase in the flow of blood throughout the skin, along with heat loss and sweating.

Sodium Citrate - It is an alkaline agent. It works by neutralizing the acid level in blood and urine.

Can Wikoryl syrup be taken on an empty stomach ?
