Myths about grey hair:

1. It is a notion that the hair turns grey

People commonly believe that the hair turns grey but contrary to popular belief, the hair doesn’t turn grey but it starts to grow as grey. As the melanin productions in the body slows down and with hair falling down, eventually, the new hair will grow lighter in shade.

2. People believe that plucking of grey hair causes it to multiply

Grey hair is caused due to a decrease in the melanin production of your body. Plucking of grey hair won’t stimulate increased growth of grey hair. However, plucking of grey hair tends to damage the hair follicles preventing the hair to grow back.

The hair changes from dark grey to light grey after it gets replaced. Hence, every time the hair falls, the next time it will grow with a lighter shade. Hence, it is better to leave the hair as it is instead of plucking it out. Since plucking damages the hair follicles it is advised to not to do so.

3. It is believed that dying your hair regularly turns your hair grey quicker

Dying just adds pigment to the strands of your hair and it doesn’t affect the melanin content of your body which is responsible for the colour of your hair.

However, it is believed that continuously dyeing your hair makes it brittle and weak.
