Caring for Straight hair

Now that you have got the straight hair that you wanted using our natural hair straightening methods, you should know how to take care of your new sleek and silky locks. Curly hair is harder to maintain but that does not mean caring for your straight hair is going to be a piece of cake either. In fact, straight hair is more susceptible to oil and dirt. Straight hair is also more prone to split ends[12] which can cause many hair problems and also stunt hair growth. To help you maintain and care for your straight hair, we have compiled a healthy list of straight hair care tips.

  • Shampooing and conditioning: You will need to shampoo and condition your hair frequently if you have medium or thick straight hair. You also need to look for the appropriate products which are right for your hair type. Generally volumizing or lightweight shampoo and conditioner would work well on straight hair. This is important because straight hair can get very oily and that can make your hair look greasy. Shampooing your hair every other day (at least 3-4 times a week) will do good for your health. Just be sure to choose the right shampoo for your hair type. Mild shampoos will generally work well, so try them out.
  • Avoid chemical-laden products: This is a no-brainer and obvious choice. When looking for products for your hair care make sure that they don’t contain any harmful chemicals[13]. Such products can reverse your hard work done on your hair care. Look for and then avoid these chemicals in your hair-care products: sulfates, parabens, triclosan, polyethylene glycol, and fragrance. These chemicals ingredients can cause a plethora of health problems not only to your hair but to your overall health in general.
  • Getting a hair cut: Straight hair, while do look sleek and sophisticated, are more prone to split ends. That can dampen your looks by making your hair dull, frizzy and frayed. You can get rid of your split ends by getting haircuts regularly. Getting your hair cut every four to six weeks will help you keep the split ends at bay. You can also trim the ends of your hair at home if you can handle scissors well on your hair. To decrease the formation of split ends you should comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb first before you brush them.
  • Use hair products sensibly: Use sensible portions of hair products when styling your hair. Use small pea-sized dollops if using hair gel or mousse. A couple of sprays from hairspray[14] will be enough for most cases. Be careful to not overdo the application of these products as it will lead to hair problems like dry hair.
  • Avoid heat: Hair styling can involve a lot of heat being applied to your hair. This deteriorates your hair health significantly as the heat will rip your hair of essential moisture. Your hair will dry out and look frizzy. That is why it is important to use heat sporadically on your hair to keep them healthy and looking good.
  • Proper diet: What you consume daily can have a significant effect on your hair health and looks. That is why you would want to eat foods that nourish and help with hair health. You should round out your diet with nutritional foods like vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, and lentils. These foods contain a variety of essential nutrients and vitamins that work wonders for the well being of your hair. Avoid eating or cut down heavily on oily foods like fried stuff if your hair is overly oily. Extra oil in hair can make it look limp and lifeless and you do not want that.
  • Don’t stress: Lastly, try not to stress too much, its bad for the overall health. This goes for women with any type of hair. Stressing out too much will adversely affect your hair health too as it causes hair loss and damage.

  • Oil your hair. There are many wonderful oils with restorative ingredients which will help keep your hair healthy and straight. You can figure out the appropriate oils for you as per your hair problems. Then, just apply your oils to your locks regularly for long-lasting benefits.
  • Twist your hair into a bun. This is an easy and simple method to achieve straight hair. When your hair is damp, tie them into a ponytail. Then twist the ponytail like a rope and wrap it around itself to make a bun. Secure with a band and air dry your hair. Afterward, comb and brush and you are good to go.
  • Use a proper comb. Don’t use a round brush as they are used for curling your hair at ends. Brushing your hair while they’re wet or tangled can cause damage to your hair like frizz or split ends. You can avoid this by using a wide-toothed comb on your hair first to untangle before proceeding with other finer combs or brushes.

We hope that this extensive and comprehensive post will help you achieve the ideal hair for you. Flaunt your new gorgeous sleek and shiny locks with pride and confidence and you’ll be the talk of the town.

  1. Yes, some of these methods definitely work 100%. I have naturally curly hair and have used the hair roller and hair bands methods in the past. Both worked flawlessly and I got the exact curls I wanted. Just follow the given instructions accurately and you will also be able to get straight hair like I did. this article also mentions a bunch of home remedies which I am curious to try out. Anyone tried them yet??

  3. haha, I find it quite funny that women always want to have the type of hair they do not have. Women who have straight hair want curly hair, curly haired women want straight hair, short haired one want long and long haired ones want shorter. It is actually hilarious I think

  4. Hey guys, I also know a simple way to add some waves and curls to your hair. Just twist and then tie your hair in a tight bun after washing it and you will soon get nice wavy curls to complement look.

  5. This definitely works. My mom told me this method years ago and I still use it to simply and easily get some gentle waves. You can twist more or less, or tie it more or less tightly to modify your curls according to your needs. Best of luck to everyone hustling out there, Keep it up

  8. Good points. Something to think about while I have rollers in my hair to curl them 😛 joking aside, you guys really make some good points and I agree with both to some extent. It always depend on individuals as everyone is unique. You have to find out what is best for yourself and that is why we try new things if the old ones are not working. That is just my opinion.

  29. Great post thanks for sharing. I have a question – can you straighten your hair permanently forever or not?? if so how to do it??

  30. No Sophia, you can permanently straighten your hair using natural and methods like the ones given in this post. these will straighten your hair for limited time but you can easily reuse them without doing any damage to your hair. The only way you can permanently straighten your hair is through cosmetic and chemical methods which you will have to have performed by a professional. and it will cost you a pretty penny too. Good luck on your quest and keep on researching before settling in for an option.

  31. Hey, great post. I have a sort of unrelated question. i mean it is related to hair soo.. well anyway here it is: How often should I oil my hair? is it actually good for hair and scalp or just a myth. i ask this because I have tried it for a long time but it is hard to see any tangible results.

  32. Oiling can be quite beneficial but you also have to consider many other factors too. i would suggest that you oil your hair once a week. Also, there are tons of different oils out there and maybe the one you use is not suitable to you. Try to find out the right oil which will go great with your specific hair type and scalp. try oils like almond oil, olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, and more. There are some really awesome oils out there. go out there and explore, you won’t be disappointed 🙂

  33. Hey, it was my pleasure. I love helping other people out. So, i did it for me not you 😀 All the best and have a great day. or night.

  35. Hey, nice post! is there any remedies I can use to increase the volume of my hair?? Pls help and Thanks in advance

  36. I personally use eggs on my hair and I think that they fill up my head nicely. My hair looks really voluminous and healthy every time I use it. I just take 1 or 2 eggs and beat them. Then I just apply it all over my hair and leave it like that for half hour. Then I wash and shampoo my hair. You can do this a couple times in a week to get gorgeous big hair. Hope this helps.

  37. Thanks a lot for your reply. really appreciate that your shared your experience. I will also definitely try this out today.

  38. Hey, nice post. i have a question: after straightening my hair, what steps should I follow to conserve them while i sleep. thanks again and pls reply soon.

  39. I would suggest that you use a satin or silk pillowcase. You can wrap up your hair in a silk or stain scarf too.

  40. Awesome post. I was looking for a post which helped me get straight hair without any chemical or cosmetic treatments and here I am! I do have a query regarding the hair straightening masks. Should we apply those on wet, dry, oiled?? what kind of hair? I am waiting for your reply. thanks a bunch.

  41. I would assume that it is different for each mask or your hair type etc. Still I would say you should them on clean hair at least.

  42. Hey, thanks for the detailed and so widespread post on hair straightening and doing it naturally.

  43. how many times do we have to use the hair masks or the other methods till we start seeing results?? or would they work at once? I highly doubt that.

  44. Using these remedies regularly will help straighten your hair eventually and get rid of your frizz. I would not say that you would get your desired results in one go but you will get results with perseverance.

  45. Hi, my hair is really curly and frizzy and dry too. I do not like to comb it as so many of my hair fall and are broken because of that. Please suggest a home remedy or treatment so that I can tame my frizzy hair. Thanks in advance, any help from anyone is appreciated.

  46. Hi Kay, i would suggest using the egg and milk mask. It will gently straighten your hair while also conditioning it and nourishing it very well.

  47. Hey, this may seem like a stupid question but here it goes anyway: Can I straighten my hair using a steam iron.

  48. No, you should not try that at all. a standard iron is wayy too hot for your hair and will burn off your hair instead of straightening or doing anything with it for that matter. So, i would not recommend doing that at all. and yes, it is kind of a stupid question 😛 jk, no questions are stupid, their purpose is to make you smarter, how could they be. xoxo Gretchen

  49. Hey team glowpink. another home run from you guys. Terrific post on hair straightening methods without causing unnecessary hair damage. This will help and open the eyes of many women. Keep doing what you are doing and you guys will go far.

  50. Yes, using heat based products do cause some damage to your hair. Using them in moderation, every once in a while is fine but if you use them regularly, you will run into many problems. You hair will become weak and frizzy because of all the damage they have seen. That could easily lead to more troubling issues like thinning of hair and excess hair fall. So be careful and aware when opting for hair straighteners or other heat based hair products like flat irons etc. Keep learning everyday and spread the good word 🙂 . Warm Regards Jenny Munoz.

  51. hey guys, in need of some help here. My hair is very dry and frizzy, how can i make it more smooth and sliky??

  52. use the natural home remedies given in this post. Regularly massage your hair and scalp with a good oil like coocnut oil. Use leave in conditioner after you shower, it works wonders on your hair to make it smooth and silky.

  53. Great post on hair straightening methods. These do not use heat so they are already streets ahead of other heat methods. thumbs up

  54. No, these methods are not permanent hair straightening methods. You can only achieve that through chemicals and stuff and you won’t be able to do that in your own home.

  55. Terrific post, please produce more like this one. All your hard work is greatly appreciated. Keep it up!
