Anti Ageing Benefits

Our skin is exposed to multiple factors which speed up the skin ageing process. Although the ageing of skin is a completely natural process, factors like prolonged sun exposure and pollution or improper skin care routine actually make it harder for the skin to maintain its elasticity and its youthful glow. Onions are a great way of ensuring that the skin remains healthy. While most of us may make use of onions only for the purpose of taste, onion juice has several health benefits for the skin and one of them is reducing the appearance of signs of ageing on the skin. This is because all types of onions are rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants play a major role in getting the body rid of free radicals which harm the skin. In addition to this, onions also contain several other nutrients like Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E which make the skin beautiful and reduce the onset of wrinkles as well. When onion juice is applied topically on the skin, it helps greatly in making the skin hydrated and plump.

Treats Acne

Acne is a major issue which many women are facing nowadays due to multiple factors. Due to our current lifestyles, it may get harder to point out one particular cause of acne. Most often than not, acne is a result of clogged pores. When the pores get filled with dirt and sebum, they may result in a pimple or severe acne. Bacteria sitting on top of the skin can also worsen the acne. Hormonal factors and dietary factors may also lead to acne. However, using onion juice topically on problematic skin can be effective since onion juice has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Hence it helps in removing the bacteria and drying out the pimples. It also contains sulphur which kills germs and hence acts as a strong astringent for the skin while combatting acne gradually.

Insect and bug bites can be painful. Usually, when an insect bites the skin, it leads to irritation, redness and itching of the skin accompanied by a burning sensation under the skin. The primary cause of all of these is the inflammation which is caused by the insect bite. Onion juice can be very effective in reducing the pain and itch associated with insect bites. This is because onion juice has anti-inflammatory properties. Hence it helps in reducing inflammation and therefore reducing the itching as well. For minor insect bites, onion juice can be applied topically. However, if you suspect the insect is poisonous or the symptoms are leading to a worse allergic reaction, then a doctor must be consulted immediately as topical treatment may not be enough.
