Using these chemical-laden wax might sometimes lead to many of the skin allergies. There are some natural recipes which can be used for preparing the wax mixture at your home. This method is both cost-effective and also a user-friendly one. Out of many of the natural recipes, sugar wax recipe is one of the most famous DIY recipes that can be prepared at your home very easily with a simple process. The necessary instructions for preparing sugar wax[2] and the steps to follow while trying this at home are as follows:

Sugar Wax recipe

Ingredients required:

  • A small cup of sugar
  • A glass of water
  • A half cup of lime juice
  • A small piece of cloth

Steps to prepare the mixture:

  1. Put the sugar, water and the lime juice altogether in a small bowl or a boiler. Heat the mixture by using a high flame.
  2. Stir the ingredients such that the compounds get mixed very well.
  3. After the mixture is boiled, slow down the heat when you could notice bubbles in the mixture. Make sure that all of the sugar crystals are dissolved in the water by stirring a spoon in it. After some time, you can notice the mixture turning into a golden colour.
  4. Once the mixture becomes thick like honey, you can stop heating. If you don’t get the required thick consistency you can heat it for some more time at a minimal heat. You can check the consistency and the thickness by stirring the mixture with a small tablespoon.
  5. Once the right consistency for the mixture is obtained, you can pour it into the bowl and allow it to cool down for some time.

Directions to use:

  1. Clean the area you want to wax with a small piece of cloth.
  2. Use your hands or a spoon or a butter knife to take a small amount of the mixture. Roll it into a small sized ball.
  3. Keep the sugar ball on the place where you want to wax and gently press it on the area. Press the wax on the skin area until the wax gets flattened completely and make sure that it is evenly spread.
  4. After spreading it quickly rub it in the opposite direction against the growth of the hair[3]. When you apply a small amount of pressure, the hair will be tugged and pulled out.
  5. Now pull it off entirely and take a deep breath.
  6. Repeat the same process in the other parts of your skin where you want to remove the hair.

10 Tips To Wax At Home Like A Pro

When you do wax at home, there are some important precautionary measures that need to be taken in order to reduce the pain caused during the session and also to avoid many of the problems like irritation or infections on the skin. The 10 painless waxing tips for complete hair removal at home are home are listed below:

  1. Before you start waxing in any of your body parts, you have to make sure that the hair has grown to a proper length so that the process can give you effective results. The hair should be of more than ¼ inch in length. When the hair is less than this, then it becomes difficult to remove the hair from your body.
  2. Do not apply any of the products like creams, body lotions, oil, moisturizers or any deodorants before doing waxing. This can prevent the wax from removing your hair when applied on the skin. The wax won’t stick on your hair when you apply it after exposing it to any of the above products. You should keep the waxing area very clean before you start. You can clean the area by using a towel. Do not make the region wet as the wax won’t stick on the area properly when it is wet. You can wash it and make it dry before starting with the waxing process.
  3. Exfoliation is a very important process which can help you in preventing and reducing the pain which is caused during the waxing session. Exfoliation should be done prior to the waxing. You can do the exfoliation with the help of body scrub. You should not scrub it too hard as the skin will be too sensitive and might also lead to some irritations on the skin. Exfoliation [13] helps the wax to get stuck effectively on your hair rather than the skin which makes the waxing experience to be a smooth one. So, when the hair is pulled off after applying the wax on your skin, it reduces the pain by not pulling the skin. It also makes your skin very soft and smooth.
  4. When you use sugar wax hair removal at home to remove the underarm hairs, you can apply a small amount of any normal talcum powder before you start to apply the wax on the skin. Since underarm is very sensitive, it might lead to some irritations during and after waxing. Applying powder can prevent you from these irritations and infections. The powder absorbs the moisture present in your underarms and soothes the entire area when the waxing is done.
  5. When you find some leftover hair after the waxing, you should not try waxing on the same area again and again. It is better not to try waxing the same area more than two times one after the other. Once the waxing is done, your skin will be very soft and sensitive and this can lead to infections and inflammations[14] very easily. If you wax the same area more than twice, it might even lead to skin damages and it might also get peeled off causing wounds. The skin might take some weeks to recover from the wounds. So, it is always better to do waxing only once in an area. You can always wax it after a few days to avoid these problems.
  6. Make sure that you pull the hair out in the right direction to avoid too much pain once the wax is applied on the skin. It is always advised to pull your hair out in the opposite direction of your hair growth. When using the cotton or waxing strips you should not pull the strips slowly. This can make you feel the pain more while pulling the hair. It is always better to pull the strips faster such that the hair also comes out effectively without getting stuck.
  7. While using the waxing kits at home, it is always advised to read the instructions printed on the packaging completely so that there is no confusion. Make sure that you are clear with all your doubts you may have before you start with the waxing process. You can also get advises from the experts and the professionals before you plan to try wax at home for the very first time.
  8. You should confirm the temperature of the wax on your skin before starting with the waxing procedure. It entirely depends on the hair removal waxing kit you prefer to use. When it comes to cold wax, there can be no issues with the temperature. But, when it comes to hot wax, you have to check the temperature and confirm it before you start applying it. It is better if the wax is warm and not too hot. Test a small amount of wax on your skin to be sure whether you are able to bear the heat, and then start applying it on the skin. Too much of heat can sometimes lead to redness, itchiness and irritations on the skin. In case of sensitive skin, it is advised to use the wax when it is warm.
  9. You can also take any of the painkillers before half an hour of your waxing session to reduce the pain. Make sure that you don’t wax your skin during your periods or 1 or 2 days before the date of your periods. Your skin will be more sensitive at that point of time when compared to the normal days. So, you will be prone to more pain when you do waxing at that time.
  10. Avoid doing waxing when you are taking some medications or are undergoing any treatments. You should also avoid it when you have skin allergies, sunburn, infections or any skin related issues. Because, at that point of time, your skin will be very sensitive and when you do waxing it might lead to an extra sensitivity on the skin. This can make your skin prone to damage. Waxing when undergoing any medications might lead to some side effects and allergic reactions on the skin. So it is better to avoid waxing under such conditions.

Post wax care

After the waxing is done, you might feel that the major part of the process is done. But still, certain important steps are remaining which you should carry out once after the waxing is done in order to avoid any complications in your skin. The waxing process is a very sensitive one which needs a lot of care to be taken of your skin even after it’s the completion. So, there are some do’s and don’ts that you should follow after the waxing to make your skin more bright, soft and smooth. Following are some of the necessary steps to follow after the waxing session is over:

1.Give a massage

After waxing is done you might feel some pain in the area where waxing is done as the hairs are pulled out in the opposite direction of their growth from the roots. You can apply some pressure using your palm and give a massage on the painful area in order to avoid the pain. This pain will be caused due to the improper blood flow in that waxed region. When pressure is applied to that area, it will make the blood flow properly and also prevents the pain signals from getting passed on to the brain.

2. Take a shower

Sometimes after the waxing is done, some amount of wax might still be there on your skin. It is better if you take a shower with warm water on that particular area. This can help you in removing the leftover wax at a faster rate.

3. Avoid usage of lotion and shampoos

Once the waxing is done you should always keep in mind that you should never use soap, shampoo or any other body lotions on the skin for 24 to 48 hours. When the waxing is done, the pores in your skin are opened and your skin also becomes very sensitive at that point of time. Using soap or any other lotion can make them enter into the pores and might create a blockage there. This might lead to redness and swelling of the skin. Sometimes it might also lead to some allergic reactions which could cause redness and inflammations.

4. Prevent skin from sun

Do not expose your skin to sunlight for at least 48 hours once the waxing process is done. When the waxed region is exposed to sunlight, it might lead to some irritations, redness, and itchiness.

5. Using post-wax oil

Use the post-wax oil given in your waxing kit for making the skin soft and smooth. It will also help you in removing the wax residues on the skin. If you use a natural recipe for waxing, you can use baby oil as a post-wax oil for reducing the pain and the redness on the skin.

Leg waxing

6. Prefer cotton outfits

Waxing in normal parts of your body might be easy. But, waxing in the most sensitive areas like the bikini, upper lip should etc. should be done with a lot of care. Sometimes it might lead to severe irritations, swelling, and redness of the skin. In such a condition, when you wear a tight outfit, it might cause even more pain. So wearing loose clothing at that time can prevent you from these skin troubles. You can wear cotton clothing as it gives a soft feeling and also helps to avoid irritations on the waxed regions.

7. Do not rub

Once the waxing is done, you might feel some irritations or itchiness in the waxed regions. In case of sensitive skin, this might happen most of the times when you wax your body parts. You might feel some pain in those waxed regions. At that point of time, you should not rub those waxed parts to get temporarily relieved from pain. When you rub those waxed regions, it might lead to some serious complications like swelling and skin damages. It is better if you make sure that you don’t rub those regions. You can use some post waxing oils to reduce these complications when you feel like rubbing your skin.

8. Use ice packs

The waxing process is usually a painful one in most of the cases. When your skin is more sensitive, you might feel more pain. Since the hair is pulled off from your skin in opposite direction, your skin might become red after waxing. This might lead to some skin damages or skin problems in some cases. You would also feel the pain in your skin even after the waxing is done, though for a few minutes. You can keep an ice pack or ice cubes on the waxed regions in order to reduce the pain in those areas. This can help you to a greater extent in making you free from the pain and the redness on the skin. It will also help in making the flow of the blood proper, thereby, preventing the swelling and the redness of the skin.

9. Prevent bacterial infections

You might have some pimples[15] in certain regions of your body like face. In such cases, you should not wax those regions to avoid any bacterial infection in the skin. Since the hot wax is applied on the skin and the hair is pulled, the pimples present closeby might get disturbed. You have to first clean the pimpled regions with the help of the clean cloth. You can apply tea tree oil or baby oil on the pimples after the waxing is done. You can also use witch hazel on those regions as it has antibacterial properties which can prevent your skin from catching any of the bacterial infections. Also, do not touch the pimples with your bare hand as it might lead to some infections and breaking of the pimples. Avoid using any of the lotions or creams as they might contain some amount of chemicals in it which might trigger the allergic reactions in those pimple regions.

10. Use skin smoothing products

After the completion of the waxing process, your skin will become very sensitive. So, it is very important to use skin smoothing products. You should avoid using any hard products like fragranced body lotions, moisturizers and oils. Using these products will make your skin very hard and also might cause some skin damages. So, it is better to prefer some skin smoothing products like baby oil or natural oils to make your skin smooth and soft.
