Aloe vera gel is one of those simple beauty ingredients that can be used from head to toe. It feels cooling on the skin, provides lightweight hydration, and can also help make dry, rough hair feel softer and more manageable.
Instead of preparing one DIY treatment for your face and another for your hair, you can make this easy 2-in-1 aloe vera mask using a few common ingredients. The same freshly prepared mixture can be applied to your face as a hydrating mask and to your hair as a conditioning treatment.
This mask combines aloe vera with yogurt, honey, flaxseed gel and rose water. Together, these ingredients create a creamy, soothing mask that is especially useful when your skin feels dry or dull and your hair feels rough, frizzy or dehydrated.
You will need:
If possible, use pure aloe vera gel without added fragrance or strong colours.
Take a clean bowl and add 3 Tbsp aloe vera gel.
Add 2 Tbsp plain yogurt and mix thoroughly until the yogurt and aloe vera gel form a smooth mixture.
Now add 1 Tbsp freshly prepared flaxseed gel. Flaxseed gel gives the mask a silky texture and works especially well as a natural conditioning ingredient for hair.
Add 1 tsp honey and mix again.
Finally, pour in 1–2 tsp rose water, depending on the consistency you prefer.
Whisk all the ingredients for about a minute. Your 2-in-1 aloe vera skin and hair mask is ready to use.
Use the mixture immediately rather than storing it for long periods because it contains fresh yogurt and other water-based ingredients.
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat it dry.
Using clean fingers or a face-mask brush, spread a thin and even layer of the aloe vera mixture over your face and neck.
Avoid the immediate eye area.
Leave the mask on for about 10–15 minutes.
Do not allow it to become extremely dry or tight on your skin.
Gently rinse your face with cool or lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel.
Follow with your regular moisturiser.
You can use this mask 1–2 times a week.
Before applying the mask, lightly dampen your hair.
Divide your hair into sections and apply the aloe vera mixture from the scalp towards the ends. If you have an oily scalp, concentrate mainly on the mid-lengths and ends.
Gently massage the mixture through your hair so that the strands are evenly coated.
Leave it on for approximately 20–30 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly with water and follow with a mild shampoo if necessary.
For very dry hair, concentrate more of the mask on the ends, where hair usually needs the most conditioning.
Use this hair mask about once a week.
